Description
Inspired by coppermarigold's story No Haven For This Heart.
archiveofourown.org/works/3186…
Post-LOK, where Korra and Kuvira stabilize the Earth nation, involving Zaofu in the aftermath of the Empire.
“You’re a traitor to this family and unwelcome in my city.”
The words chafe at her makeshift, haggard defenses and Kuvira notes how readily they slip from her mentor’s tongue. She’d stepped forward to spare Korra the lies −the Avatar, on her summon to Zaofu, had brought with her the shamed Great Uniter. Here, Kuvira is once again tyrant and dictator; the words ring synonymous with her former title in Suyin’s presence.
“Korra… I will be outside,” Kuvira’s voice comes quieter than she remembers it.
Her presence is easily excused.

But out of all the villains, I think Kuvira is easily the one who has the chance of redeeming herself. And I really hope Suyin can find it in her heart to forgive Kuvira because she DID forgive Batarr Jr. in a heartbeat and he created and supplied the weapons for Kuvira WILLINGLY.

Korra: *after Kuvira leaves* Su... Was that really called for?
Su: She betrayed us.
Korra: You're just like Lin. You can hold a grudge just as tightly and as long as she does.
Su: Korra...
Korra: You don't think that what she did still haunts her? It does, Su. Trust me it does.

Su: She invaded my city, when there was no unrest. When there was no need. She betrayed everything I ever taught her. Don't expect forgiveness on my part. If that's what you came for, you'll be disappointed.
(Because, really, enough with trying to brush aside what a dictatot did (which includes putting people in work camps (for being Firebenders or Waterbenders) and re-education camps (for the crime of disagreeing with her) because of the easy excuse that she feels sorry. Kuvira went way past sorry long ago).

As much as I think Kuvira does deserve some credit for her regret at the end, in Suyin's and ESPECIALLY in Suyin's perspective you really can't blame her for not forgiving Kuvira.
Kuvira might not have been her daughter but she was like her daughter (which if i remember correctly is what hurt Kuvira ㅠㅠ) and her best protege whom Suyin trusted and was greatly proud and fond of....
and to have all of that trust and love betrayed.....and even breaking her blood family apart (sigh)

Your style and ability to capture the characters is just beyond amazing. It looks like straight from the show. You've done the same good work on your Zaheer vs. Kuvira screencap simulation and I wanted to ask which program/brushes do you use for the lineart? They resemble animation linearts perfectly but I wonder if there is a special brush/a special setting that you make use of, if it's ok to ask?

Hi, thank you! I use Photoshop with a regular hard round brush. Usually, I turn off pressure sensitivity on my tablet to get uniform thickness lines, and I use up to 3 line thicknesses: thickest for outer-most lines (e.g. around outside of a character to make them pop-out against the background), medium thickness (standard), thin (details on clothing/ where lines are close together and risk blending into each other). I hope this helps!

I love your style. Crisp and clear linework that really fits in well with the show. If LoK is extended through comics like ATLA was, they should look no further.

That's what I like about this series. Like the Narnia series, you could tell a thousand and one tales and still have plenty of story fodder.

I imagined that I would prefer a separate series, only this family: ideas.wikia.com/wiki/The_Beifo…

I think it's too rich of a universe to limit the story to the Beifong family alone. For the purpose of a spin-off series, I don't see a problem, but I wanted to work with a bigger scope here.

Awesome work! I love Kuvira's expression here. Will looking forward to the prequel, or sequel, or both. You're my favorite artist.
