Description I'm starting to experiment with Sharpies now; I usually hate doing anything in pen, much less sharpies... but using it was a requirement for class so I figured - why not?

I'll move these to scraps once I come up with better versions either digitally or I actually learn how to use sharpies and draw these guys better.

So these are my attempts at Katara and Azula w/o any references; not that they're really necessary but as you can see, they'd probably help At least you should be able to tell which one is which For those of you who haven't seen Avatar (go watch it!) Katara is on top w/ Azula on the bottom...

Maybe I'll make a series of sharpie drawrings...eventually...

I think this was a fluke cause I don't think I can do it again, haha.

Your coloring with markers is nice and smooth

Aww thank you. It's hard! I don't know how artists who color with markers (ie Copic, Prismacolor, etc) do it because...ugh! At least those don't stink though

Haha yep.
Coloring with markers is so hard >.< You can't go over the same place if you want an even color.

And it sucks because markers are so expensive! That puts even more pressure on learning how to do it!

Yea...even the crayola ones for kids The traditional mediums I prefer are color pencils and watercolors...acrylics are awesome too.

I'm going to start learning to use coloring pencils or at least try to (even though all I have are my pack of Crayola and Prang - really old sets but never really used ) I'd like to learn watercolor and acrylics but paint scares me

No way...paints are awesome! Acrylics are really fun cuz you can mix em...and they dry pretty fast. I actually don't like oils that much...they take forever to dry...and so hard to wash (even the water soluble ones)
I think Crayola pencils are the best

Oils I think scare me the most? I just saw one of the art professors do a demo and jeebus he's good! He did it in about 2 hours and it was really awesome - the process and the knowledge that went into the quick piece. It was inspiring and terrifying at the same time ^^

Crayola are also second to the cheapest XD

D: 2 hrs only? Wow...that's really pro

I don't know why, but I like the hardness of Crayola color pencils...guess cuz that's what I used when I was little . I used another brand now....its a green box and they blend more easily...I forgot the name...it might be Prismacolors.

Oooh prismacolors... sweet. If/when I get decent with Crayola I might move on up to Prismacolors but I'm too poor right now

Thank you! I hope to make more in the near future ^^ Thankfully sharpies are non-toxic but man they stink!

It's my pleasure!^^
I look forward to seeing more of them, then.

Yeah, they smell bad. D: [I get headaches from sharpies; it sucks.]

Seriously me too. And I tend to draw really close to my face (it's a bad habit of mine) so I really get a whiff of those sharpies @_@

dragnclaw In reply to TerraForever [2007-10-16 20:15:23 +0000 UTC]

I have the same issue. XD
Everything looks decent when I draw close to the paper, but when I move away from it to see how it really looks, hehe....it's not always that good. XD
[But then again, I do wear glasses, and well, my eyes don't work together, so depending on which eye I use, the perspective is a bit different. D: ]

Once again, very nice! Love the sharpies and I don't think they look bad at all. Great work!

Thank you so much! ^_^ I really hope that I can improve my skillz so I can draw more. It is a lot of fun so I want to experiment with it more. Unfortunately I can't erase with sharpie and that scares me

ekormekolindo In reply to TerraForever [2007-10-16 15:39:15 +0000 UTC]

I am so with you on that. I have worked with pens before and it really is scary since you cannot erase, but then you get good at improvising.

Thank you so much. They're really just simple doodles- I hope I can improve my "mad sharpie skillz" and make some better doodles in the future! I'd really like to play around more with the characters who have long hair.

i love doing long hair on girls, its more appealing to the eyes.

TerraForever In reply to Ivory-Byrd [2007-10-16 20:10:33 +0000 UTC]

It really is! It's just fun to do and fun to mess around with. I have yet to really work on curly hair and what not. I've usually done wavy or straight... need to practice!

TerraForever In reply to Ayama15 [2007-10-16 07:20:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I hope I can get better with a sharpie cause I'd like to make more doodles like this with the other Avatar characters, particularly the girls with long hair (it's more fun!) ^_^

Oh, definitely. There's more you can do with it too. Pony tails, braids, etc.
