Towards the end of the war the military was working on it's own drone called the Doodlebug. Basically, they took the turbocharger off of the Pratt and Whitney engine used on the B-29, and added a burner chamber to it and made a miniature jet engine. The Doodlebug used two and was intended as a rail launch vehicle. The project was terminated after several failures and not one successful launch. But I like this unit.
