I think you might need to check the 3D settings. To do so, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Performance and Β Edit > Preferences > 3D.

Great work.
Had a quick look at the tutorial. Making the extrusion is part of Photoshop, I guess?
(I have Photoshop Elements 6.0)

It's all done using Photoshop CS6. Filter Forge is used to enhance the coloring of the final result only.
If you have the required Shape and 3D attributes, you'll be able to create it.

I didn't know Photoshop CS was able to do that.
Anyway, Your image inspired me to do about the same, but in a different workflow of course.
