Both the Supreme Theos and Paellax the Deceiver have Heralds - a servant spirit that reincarnates into one human being in every millennium, inspiring that person into wandering the Earth and spreading the word of their masters to other people. Think of it like a mixture of Jesus Christ and the Avatars of Vishnu, except one of the Heralds is good and the other is evil.
This one here is Asag, the 12th Herald of Paellax. He is the one who leads people astray in the current generation. He wears the symbol of his master on his brow, and he uses all sorts of magic, manipulation, illusionism and trickery to bring a few more people to his Black Herd.
