Description So just before I finish the remakes, I really felt like doing something with a character from the Ellie's Strange Life setting: the mysterious Máire na Tí, an Irish goddess who finds herself taken to the USA.
Máire is a household goddess that's associated with family and blood bonds, although she also has a chthonic aspect to her. She would care for the prosperity and wellbeing of any household, and each house would have its own altar dedicated to her where offerings would be made, especially during holidays and in important familiar occurrences such as the birth of a new member of the family, a marriage or the death of a loved one.
Despite her charismatic and mostly benevolent disposition, she can also be fickle and vindictive, taking any perceived slight to heart. While this doesn't mean that she uses her powers all the time to mess up with people's lives, there have been occasions where entire families have lost her favor, along with other stranger happenings...

She has already made an appearance in a certain non-canonical comic , although with the amount of times within the setting that someone becomes someone else's family member (be it by twinning or some other weird way), I wouldn't be surprised if she were involved or at least aware of all these events!
I really wanted to do a clear full-body pic of her, since the two times we saw her non-idol self she was heavily distorted and transparent

Some facts about her:
  • Her name literally means "Mary of the House" in Irish, although it is actually a replacement for her true name, which the original cult deemed taboo (which is similar to other faiths and deities, including the three Abrahamic religions). Sadly her true name has been lost to time.
  • Her worship in Ireland was largely repressed since the time of Saint Patrick, however due to her beloved role as protector of the household, her cult survived the island's Christianization, as well as a considerable amount of information regarding her iconography and characteristics. Nowadays she's one of several native deities whose cult has been revived in Celtic neopaganism.
  • There are other idols of her found mostly throughout Ireland, however at least one of her cult images has been confirmed to have arrived to the New World, by virtue of John Magroyne's wife, Siobhan O'Rileigh, whose family reconciled their Catholic faith with their deep dedication to Máire. The statue was likely brought to America so that Siobhan would keep making offerings to her, in order to receive her blessing and ensure that she would form a new family in the United States.
  • Dominic Toretto from the Fast and Furious movie franchise has recently become an outspoken advocate for her worship, speaking for the values of family (please don't take this too seriously).
