Two years passed since Daria had suffered those pranks. Two years that she and Ralph had spent together, in love and in harmony with one another. As a truly loving couple, the two were inseperable as ever. As for Janice, she hadn't pestered her with any other pranks ever since that time, but she nonetheless felt envious of her former best friend. Who knew, maybe the future would shine on her?

One day, Daria and Ralph were in the school cafeteria, when they noticed a particular poster referring to a certain event. The poster read
MASQUERADE BALL
THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WILL BE SERVED

Daria became excited at the news instantly. "Do you see that, Ralph?? There will be a ball this Friday Night! That's tomorrow! Can we go, can we go, can we go??"
Ralph looked at his lover in the eyes. "Uh, I never really liked balls that much. Especially with masks. They make me feel uneasy."
"Wait, did you say y-"

"Hey Ralph, hey Daria." Daria was interrupted by a distressed Janice. She turned to Ralph and asked him "Please, can I borrow your cellphone? I need to make an urgent call, and mine's out of battery. Please, I'm really desperate to make it."
Ralph looked at Janice. She seemed to be nervous, anxious really, and her breath was irregular and short-paced, as if she had been running. She had to be really desperate to make that phone call. There was nothing wrong with lending her his phone for a few minutes, was it? After all, he had no reason to be suspicious of her, since she had never done anything bad to him.
So, in an act of kindness, Ralph reached out his cellphone to her and smiled at her. "Sure, you can use it, just give it back to me when you're done."
"Oh, thank you, thank you very much. Do you mind if I do it in private? It's pretty personal", she asked, reaching out and grabbing his phone.
"Of course you can", Ralph answered.
"Thank you again! I'll be right back!" Janice excused herself and left the cafeteria.

Ralph turned back and noticed Daria was looking at him with an amused expression. "What?", he asked.
"Did you say you were afraid of masks back there?" she asked, with a mischievous smile on her face.
"Wait, I never said that", Ralph retorted. "I said I didin't like masks because... what's the point in hiding your face unless you have something else to hide? That's why I dislike masquerade balls."
"Oh, come on sweetie," his girlfriend begged, "ever since I was a little girl I've always wanted to go to a masquerade, like in the movies!"
"I don't know, Daria, I don't think I'll enjoy going there. I'm sorry, but-"
"So you don't want to go. I see", Daria interrupted him. Suddenly, she got closer to her boyfriend. "But picture this: if we don't go, you might not get to see me in costume, wearing an elegant dress and a mask..." She leaned her body against his and looked right into his eyes. "And later, you might not get to see what's underneath it... and I'm not talking about the mask..."
Ralph was starting to blush at the thought. Was she really suggesting something like that? "W- well," he started to mumble, "maybe we can go to the ball after all..."
"YES!" Daria jumped into the air in excitement. "Thank you, sweetie!"

After a while, Janice came back with Ralph's cellphone.
"Sorry for taking so long," she said while she retrieved Ralph his phone, "but I had no idea the call was gonna take this long. I hope I didn't spend all your credit."
"It's alright, you don't owe me anything." Ralph grabbed his phone and slipped it back into his pants pocket.
"Hey, I know how to pay back to you. I'll buy us three our drinks!" she suggested.
"You can't do that, it's too expensive!" Daria quickly protested against the idea, but Janice insisted.
"Please, I insist. Let me buy you guys a drink. That way I'll make up for all the credit I must have spent in Ralph's phone with that call."
"Alright, if you insist..." Ralph said. Daria had also accepted the terms and was now smiling at her friend.
"Don't worry guys, this one's on me", Janice said while she left to get the drinks. "After all, what are friends for?"

TIIIIIIIME SKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP! Number two!
And now we're back to present day. As in, a few months before the events in ESL as a whole.
And we're also back with the old models, yey. That way things won't look so weird and incoherent when I present ESL 3.
Well damn, deredere Daria is a cute little rascal.
