Brie fumbled with her phone as she tried to keep it close to her head. Never had she resented her insistence on being a Luddite when it came to telecommunications as much as this moment. The phone rested between her clumsy foot and her face, and she repeated the question again.

"So how long do you think it will take?" Brie asked with a hope that was soon to be dashed.

A gruff voice replied to her stiffly. "Brie, let's be realistic here. It took us years to develop the formula. It's fantastic that it worked and does such a remarkable job at restoring vitality and softness to someone's feet. None of us could have predicted it would react like this when applied to someone's hands." There was a long pause and the gruff voice returned. "Look, Brie, Were going to do our best, and you just hang in there. The good news is that the product works, so we're going to get a lot more funding, and I'm sure they will want to figure out why this happened. The company will take care of you even if it does take years to figure out what happened."

Years, brie's heart sank in her chest and she muttered some reply to her colleague before dropping the phone from her clumsy grip.

'Why did I have to be so damn eager, we weren't ready for human testing' She looked at the soul of her foot, it used to be a palm, but now... 'Now I have these dumb things instead of hands.'

Brie was frustrated, on one hand, the promise of her work being recognized and the formula getting funding was amazing, but on the other hand, she knew quite well how long it had taken to get this far. She was going to be stuck with a pair of feet where her hands used to be for the foreseeable future.

Brie looked her feet over, they were an exact duplicate of her original feet, even down to the nail polish. She went to push her glasses up as they slid down her nose only to frown as her clumsy foot threatened to smudge across the lens. With a slow and steady motion, she pushed her glasses up without pressing her toes to the glass.

"At least they aren't completely useless..." Brie said with a sigh. Maybe if she practiced she could get them to be a bit more flexible, some people had rather dexterous feet actually. Brie laughed at the thought of returning to her old job but keeping her strange feet. "I'd be the talk of the lab, the brilliant researcher with feet for hands."

Maybe this wasn't that bad after all, she could do this. Sure it was going to take a lot of practice, but Brie was patient, and it wasn't like they were going to find a way to reverse this without her help anyhow...

Plus as much as she hated to admit it, they did look kind of cute in a way. Her face went a little red as she realized that they might be kinda growing on her...
