Gloria lifted one of the weathered branches, tucking it back into place with the others. The fence was getting decrepit by now, more a suggestion than a function fence. Still, she needed to keep up the appearances of having a boundary least the cows wander where they please.

Gloria bent down to grab another fallen piece of wood when something caught her eye. Tucked under the dull grey wood was something shiny, no, not just shining; it was almost glowing despite the somber grey skies. Gloria pulled away some of the grass which had begun to grow up around the half-buried object and gently pulled it free of a half-submerged state. Surprisingly it came free with ease and was not only spotlessly clean but also warm to the touch. She had no idea where this strange cowbell had come from, but its design was different than any of the ones used on her farm... She shrugged and brought the bell back with her to the farmhouse.

Later that day, Gloria sat at her desk in the small office she used to go over the farm's finances. She was busy reading through one of her ledgers with the cowbell sitting on the desk, and every time she tried to focus on what she was reading, the gleaming metal of the bell would catch her eye. Gloria found herself staring at it, having wasted at least ten full minutes in an almost hypnotic state. Slowly, and with a mild headache, she sat the ledger down and left her office.

The headache went away as soon as Gloria had left the presence of the bell. Thoughts of the cowbell haunted her as she tried to cook herself dinner. The farmer didn't even remember what she had eaten by the time she found herself back in the small study. She stood in front of her desk, staring down at it, and with a slightly shaking hand, she reached out to touch it again. It felt hot to the touch, but it didn't burn, it was a pleasant warmth that made her loathe to put the bell back down.

It was after a good half hour of wandering around holding the bell that the thought to put it on a collar and free her hand entered her head. She laughed aloud at the thought of actually wearing the bell, but found herself looking for a collar that would fit her regardless. She ended up finding one out in the barn, and soon enough the heavy gleaming bell hung around her neck.

The first changes were almost instantaneous. Gloria felt like her body had turned to liquid, and the tail all but flowed out of her back. The farmer grabbed at the shape in utter confusion, in complete disbelief of what she held in her hand. Her eyes narrowed and she all but ripped the bell off her neck, tossing it on to the hay-strewn floor. It took about ten minutes for the tail to shrink back down and disappear completely, and a further ten for her to calm down. Soon enough Gloria was back in her barn and had collected the apparently magical cowbell. Her initial response to the magical artifact had been shock, but now she was simply curious.

Gloria put the bell on for a second time and watched as the tail returned. The strange sensation of her body being a malleable liquid returned, and Gloria quickly removed the bell to watch the tail shrink away again. Her tail was rather long and covered in a pattern of white and dark brown fur capped with hair similar to that of her head. It seemed like it took a little longer this time to disappear, but it still shrunk back into her body as if it had never been there.

Gloria bit her lip, toying with the cowbell in her hands and ultimately deciding to test out the magic of the strange bell more thoroughly. This time Gloria watched as the tail reformed, but didn't remove the collar. Now the fur pattern started to edge up her back, and her ears had begun to tingle.

It must have been a half-hour later when she realized she no longer could unhook the collar. Her arms now resembled a fix of an arm and a cow's leg, and the two hooves at the end were nowhere nimble enough to remove the somewhat small collar. She was regretting having grabbed a collar fitted for a calf at this point, she easily could have slipped out of one of the ones sized for a full-grown cow. Gloria let out a bemused size, the transformation into some sort of cow human hybrid had slowed down as she changed, and now seemed close to stopping entirely, so at least she wouldn't be a full cow in the morning when one of the workers she paid to help around the farm showed up. Until then it looked like she was going to spend the night like this.

Gloria slowly walked out of the barn on all fours, her hooves kicking up a trail of dusty earth behind her while her pendulous breasts swayed beneath her. They hadn't turned into udders, but both the breast and nipples had grown in size significantly, and then the second pair had grown in. She was fairly certain that they were full to bursting with milk, and this sensation was somewhere between uncomfortable and incredibly lewd. It would be some time before the farmhands would show up and give her her morning milking. Gloria scowled at that thought, she didn't need a milking, she needed to get this collar off.
