Since this is a very personal portrait, I guess, I can't say that your vision isn't great. The smile of this woman reflects her joy, she seems happy. The simple atmosphere given by the background gives to this an old appearance, and I think that it was what you wanted to do.

I love portraits. They are technically the representation of someone, but the artist always put his own view of the person into the drawing. Here, I can feel that she is important to you, special, because you made her looks strong. And this is original, as a gift, and as a piece of art ! Even if a portrait is taken from a photo, the techniques used will make it unique.

This is amazing. In a first time, I am going to talk about lights. The shades and lights on her face give to the painting a really natural look, and relief too. The navy shading on dark hair is a perfect idea, and it reminds me of birds's plumage. The nose is based on shading, and you totally understand that. We can see that her nose is pretty shaped, and small. Lips are greats too; her smile is so real. And the thing is that the shading is more soft on her clothes; this make us concentrate on her face, this is the goal of the portrait. Finally, her eyes. They make her so alive, eyes are the mirror of the soul, once again, I can feel that she is happy.
Next, your painting style. This is smooth, and again, simple on clothes and detailed on her face. You gave her a lovely smooth skin. The hair are, after the face, my favorite part, the reason is that there her hairstyle is not "confined", there are some strands of hair "escaping". As I said before; this gives a natural look.

As a Mother's Day gift, I find this wonderful. I just can't deny that this is a beautiful present. I would feel blessed, receiving a painting like this one, so this has a great impact on me. But after all, I don't know who this woman is, and just with a drawing I feel like I know her and just find an old photo in a bow which were hide; I feel like discovering family members.
