Description
Janine had thought that she was in for a normal, drama-free week. But then her boyfriend Dave told her that they (along with Bob) were temporarily being transferred to Sanford, Gloucestershire: the very same place her ex-boyfriend Nicholas Angel had been transferred to.
Janine rolled her eyes at fate's twisted idea of a joke and rolled with it. She and her fellow forensics investigators were called in to analyze the bodies ofΒ Tim Messenger and Leslie Tiller, two victims of "unfortunate accidents", due to the lack of a forensic department in the Sanford Constabulary. Normally, her alarm bells would be ringing at such odd occurrences, but Janine was too busy trying to maintain some mutual distance from her old flame to really notice.
Things came to a head when one evening, she saw a cloaked figure murdering Bob with a pitchfork right as he was lighting a cigarette. Janine ran off to warn the local police about what just happened, but she was suddenly grabbed by Dave and two other cloaked figures before being knocked out.
When Janine regained consciousness, the first thing she noticed was that she was sitting in what looked like an old trailer, and was tied up tightly in a large garbage bag that restricted her movements. The second thing she noticed was Bob's bloody corpse sitting a few feet away from her, along with a few other decayed bodies. Janine was thankful that her facemask blocked the rotting stench from her nostrils, but she still couldn't help but sense a bit of irony in her predicament, given her long career of examining dead bodies.
At that moment, Dave walked into the trailer she was locked in. He droned on about how his aunt was a member of Sanford's Neighbourhood Watch Alliance, and that he committed himself to helping the group's efforts in maintaining the idyllic utopia that Sanford was. But Janine barely paid any attention beyond how this deranged cult went around killing innocent people for the most mundane things. Bad acting? Newspaper typos? Bland architecture??
And all because the lead inspector's wife drove herself off a cliff after she was denied a Village Of The Year award?
Janine had heard her share of insane justifications from murderers in London, but this one definitely took the cake.
Dave went on about how he convinced the NWA to keep her alive as a bargaining chip, since Nicholas Angel was still in town. Janine wasn't sure to be grateful for Nicholas' presence in Sanford, or wish she'd been the one to be bludgeoned with a pitchfork. Either way, Dave left her locked up with the other bodies of the NWA's unfortunate victims for the next few hours. And after her lungs went hoarse from yelling for help, Janine resigned herself to her fate as she morbidly tried theorizing how the NWA's targets met their early demises.
But Janine was soon snapped out of her thoughts when her ex-boyfriend came crashing through the roof of the trailer she was in.
"Nicholas?!" she squinted her eyes through the plume of dust and dirt as the newly-promoted sergeant rose to his feet.
"Janine?" Nicholas' eyes went wide with concern as he saw Janine all wrapped up. But then he jumped back from Bob's corpse. "Oh my God, Bob!"
Janine rolled her eyes. "Nice to see you still care about me."
Nicholas spun on his feet as he gaped at the decomposed bodies around him. "Crusty jugglers...dog muck...bushy beard..."
"Nicholas?" Janine arched a brow at him. Did he hit his head during the fall?
Nicholas knelt closer to her. "Janine, listen to me. The Neighbourhood Watch has been murdering people for the most ludicrous reasons! All because-!"
"They thought those poor sods would hurt their chances at getting a pretentious award?"
"...Yes, how'd you know?"
Janine scoffed. "Dave. He spared no details. His aunt's part of the Watch, y'know."
Nicholas blinked. "Dave's with them? He always seemed so nice."
"What was it you said? Guilty people often make the first move?" Janine recited her ex's words.
"I'm surprised you remembered."
"That's what I said when you showed up last-minute for our anniversary dinner," she bluntly replied. "Ugh, not important. Just get me out of this, will you?" she wriggled a bit in the bag she was roped up in.
"I-I haven't got any tools on me. Let me see if-"
Nicholas was cut off by the sounds of footsteps outside the trailer.
"Bugger's in here somewhere!" a voice called out from the catacombs.
Nicholas hung his head. "Look, I'm sorry, I have to go."
Janine reeled back. "What?! Wait-!"
"I can't help you if we're both caught. I'll be back, I promise!" Nicholas hurried out of the trailer.
Janine threw her head back exasperatedly. She then squirmed around and pushed herself onto her feet, before she slowly started hopping her way out of the trailer.
"At least he had the decency to leave the door open," Janine grumbled to herself mid-hop. She was then stopped when Dave and a few other NWA members blocked off her path.
"Does that make Angel more of a gentleman than me, love?" Dave quipped.
Janine rolled her eyes as Dave walked over and hoisted her over his shoulder. So much for an uneventful week...
The following morning, Janine was still tied up as she sat inside Dave's car, which was parked in a secluded area away from prying eyes. She hadn't had a chance to eat or shower, which only worsened her foul mood on top of being trapped with a bunch of corpses for God knows how long. She stared off into the distance at Sanford's scenic nature and rustic architecture. Although they were a bunch of kill-crazy maniacs, the Neighbourhood Watch had a decent point about wanting to preserve the beauty Sanford had to offer.
Janine was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of gunfire echoing into the air, along with the panicked shouts of the NWA. Janine smiled under her facemask as she knew only one man who could stir up such a ruckus.
"Nicholas."
Just then, Dave scrambled into the car as he clutched a bleeding gunshot wound on his shoulder.
"Would you like me to kiss that for you to make it all better?" Janine snarked.
"Shut up," Dave hissed. "Your ex just had to ruin everything for us, eh? All we wanted was to make Sanford a place of beauty!"
"It already was. You're the ones who fucked it all up with the bloodshed."
"It was for the greater good!" Dave barked back. "You spent way too much time with that fascist."
"At least that 'fascist' has the good grace to know right from wrong."
Dave grunted as he started driving away from the town. Janine subtly glanced at him before noticing that he failed to secure her with a seatbelt. With a smirk, Janine slowly started positioning her feet towards her soon-to-be-second ex.
"You wanna know a few tips I hung onto from dating Nicholas, Dave?"
Dave turned to face Janine, right as she thrust her tied feet right into his face. Janine could hear the bridge of his nose breaking as his head slammed against the side-view window, knocking him out cold. The car swerved out of control until it came to a stop as it crashed against a lamppost. Janine shook her head as she collected her breath, all the while her ears rang from the impact of the car. She then looked over at Dave, and her smirk widened as he remained unconscious.
"Always be aware of your surroundings. And always make sure passengers have their seatbelts on."
A few minutes passed as Janine still remained seated in the car, as her bindings prevented her from getting out on her own. At that moment, Nicholas and another constable came rushing towards the totaled car.
"Janine!" Nicholas carefully pulled her out of the wreck and used a pocket knife to cut her free of her bindings.
"Thanks for that." Janine stretched out her sore limbs, ignoring the longing stare of Nicholas' portly partner. "Mind telling me who your friend is?"
"Uh, Janine, this is Danny. He's been a huge help in taking down the Neighbourhood Watch."
"Hello, there!" Danny waved (a little too) enthusiastically to Janine.
Janine shook her head. "So I take it all those bums are taken care of?"
Nicholas nodded. "Yes. I just made the call to the relevant authorities. They'll be here shortly to haul them all off."
"Good." She sent a piercing glare at Dave's unconscious form.
"I am sorry about Dave." Nicholas rubbed the back of his neck. "Guess that's twice now you've had your heart broken..."
Janine smiled under her facemask as she waved it off. "I wouldn't say you broke my heart. But I think you've more than made up for it by being the one-man army you've always excelled at being."
Nicholas grinned with a blush. "...Does this mean...?"
"It's still over between us, Nicholas." Janine sighed as she tried to ignore the hint of sadness on his face. "After what I've just been through, I'm not too keen on pursuing a relationship anytime soon. What I am looking forward to is a long week to myself on a sunny beach with no kidnappers or murderers."
"Completely understandable." Nicholas agreed.
"But wait, what if the place you relax at has a secret cult of murderers too?" Danny asked innocently.
Nicholas shot him a glare while Janine just rolled her eyes. "I think we've tempted fate enough for one day, don't you?"
"Pardon him, he's just very excitable around new people," Nicholas said.
"Especially since she's your ex," Danny interjected. "Kinda bummed you ain't getting back together."
"That is strictly a mutual choice, and I have to respect her decision not to."
"But look at her, bruv! She's a badass! Don't let her walk away again!"
"Are we really going to discuss this in front of her?" Nicholas looked over at Janine, who chuckled at the two law enforcers' antics.
"I see you've finally found someone you care about more than the force," Janine commented. "And to think, he's part of the force."
Nicholas shared a matching grin with Danny before they shared a fist-bump. "Looks like I have."
"I'll leave you boys to it. I'm off to get a drink before I put this town in my backview mirror."
"We...kinda wrecked the pub during the shootout," Danny sheepishly replied. "Sorry 'bout that."
Janine sagged her shoulders. "Of course, nothing goes my way in this backwoods town."
Nicholas walked over to her. "How about I buy us some drinks sometime? Not as partners... But as friends?"
Janine looked at her ex-partner from top to bottom, considering his offer. She then sighed and shook her head. "Oh, what the hell? At least I know your type of obsession doesn't involve murder."
Nicholas smiled warmly. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Janine returned the smile, before making her way back to town to find the nearest liquor bottle that was still intact.
"She's such a keeper, mate," Danny whispered to Nicholas.
"Shove off."
--Anyone else remember Hot Fuzz? The 2007 buddy-cop film directed by Edgar Wright? Well I do, and I especially remember Cate Blanchett's minute-long cameo as Nicholas Angel's ex-girlfriend Janine. Even though she only appeared in one very short scene, Janine's character really stood out to me for all the right reasons. Which is why I decided to add a little damsel/bondage moment for Nicholas' former flame What better way to spice up the plot for a buddy-cop film than a damsel with a dry sense of humor?
--Alright, I'm gonna be honest with all of you if you made it this far. My time on DeviantArt might be coming to a close...
Because of DA's stupid policy of shutting down any accounts with the slightest hint of DiD content, I'm EXTREMELY worried that my account's going to be next on the chopping block any day now. And because of that, from this moment forward (until something's done about DA's dumb policy), any drawing I post could very well be my last.
Should the absolute worst happen and I wake up to see that my account's been shut down, I just wanted to say 'thank you' for all the praise for my Damsel Gallery. The support, faves, and compliments for my artwork have been unreal, and it's meant a lot to me to be able to express my love for DiD and bondage with likeminded Deviants.
Take care, and best of luck in all your future endeavors...
