how do I post the art from gimp

TFresistance In reply to MrsKillerKitty [2016-01-14 00:12:21 +0000 UTC]

you have to "Export as" and then "writeNameOfFile.png"
the png file is what you upload on DA

I've got another question, sorry!

I've followed this tutorial but my brush stays the same opacity no matter what? It's always a rough thick black line, and I can't get it to change. Do you know what the problem might be?

TFresistance In reply to ShadeMunsuta [2015-10-18 05:34:53 +0000 UTC]

oh gimp is a lil tricky >.<

be sure that the tablet is connected before opening it
and open the application with the tablet

sometimes the pressure is still not working
and I have to restart my pc ._.
that solves it

aahh I have a friend at work that loves SAI too

she only works on it

BioHermistry In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-13 19:50:51 +0000 UTC]

just like me XD
i also use Photoshop, but only for transparent backgrounds, which you can't really do in Sai
or I just don't know how XD

PinchOfPeppers [2015-09-12 19:07:24 +0000 UTC]

Are you using the most recent updated version of gimp?

Maybe it's just my tablet, but I can't, for the life of me, use pen pressure.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to PinchOfPeppers [2015-09-13 17:40:59 +0000 UTC]

x.x yeah I understand your pain

but, I still didn't updated mine for a while now o.o
and now I dunno if I should, apparently

I had a Trust tablet and it was always hard to have it working on Gimp
I had to go to forums to find some solutions
but since I bought a Bamboo (Wacom) I never had that problem again

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PinchOfPeppers In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-13 19:02:35 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I'm too broke to pay for that. ;-;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to PinchOfPeppers [2015-09-13 19:29:43 +0000 UTC]

ouch I understand xD

what tablet do you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PinchOfPeppers In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-14 00:39:19 +0000 UTC]

It's a M708 graphics tablet by UGEE. Oddly, it works on Photoshop, but I have no money for photoshop. ;-;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to PinchOfPeppers [2015-09-14 12:52:47 +0000 UTC]

yeap I had the same problem before having a wacom
I loved gimp but I had to lose bunch of time in forums
to fix my compatibility problems x.x

everytime there was an update I didn't wanted to,
because I knew I was going to have problems againΒ

since gimp is free
it's hard for them
to get their program working with every kind of tablets

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PinchOfPeppers In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-14 15:07:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I get it. I learned the hard way.

Ah well. At least I can still use gimp.Β

Great to see people making Gimp tutorials and bringing this program more to the light among digital painters!
Really well made!!

TFresistance In reply to barananduen [2015-09-13 17:51:54 +0000 UTC]

oooh thank youΒ  Β
I really wasn't expecting such loveΒ from people
with this simple tutorial
it's the first time I made one

it's been some years I work with Gimp
8 years I guess
I love it

I was very confused with the Dynamics when it first came out xD
but now I find it fantastic
because you can create a lot and it's not hard to understand

barananduen In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-13 19:18:51 +0000 UTC]

Which version do you use, btw?
I use 2.6.12 because I tried upgrading to 2.8.something once but some of my brushes ended up all pixelated, so I downgraded back to 2.6. The downside is that it doesn't have the random rotation of brushes (but in 2.8.whateveritwas you couldn't stop them from rotating when you didn't want them to), nor the dynamics that you describe here. Or at least I couldn't figure out how to fix those issues.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to barananduen [2015-09-13 19:29:05 +0000 UTC]

ouch yeah I see o.o
I'm using 2.8.10

there's 2.8.14 out, but I'm not sure if I want to upgrade it now xD
I remember having some trouble to configure the tablet

updates can be messy xD

GnomeSketches [2015-09-11 20:46:39 +0000 UTC]

i don do those processes D but you actually realises that you do all these as you experience more

such as the fact that i don' draw the sketch skeleton thingy when i was 11 or 12 when i started doodling. and then i decided xP

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to GnomeSketches [2015-09-13 19:09:57 +0000 UTC]

yap xD
experience create methodologies!

well I learned to draw mostly alone
I never followed tutorials or books
and never used bones

how ironic I made a Tutorial now *derp*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GnomeSketches In reply to TFresistance [2015-09-13 20:43:51 +0000 UTC]

well, technically when i felt like i was drawing osmethin wrong i would look at other peoples drawings or just do a still life draw xP

and yeah, i draw skeleton looking structures cause otherwise everything is everywhere xD

The process looks so cool!Β  Β How long does it take for you to make an art piece like the one at the bottom?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TFresistance In reply to SphinxSkulls [2015-09-11 19:09:00 +0000 UTC]

aproximatley ~4h I guess
just because the sketch/lineart takes some time
filling and gradient it's way quicker
