Looking at the terms of the Zelda knowledge, Zelda becomes a boy to work under Ganondorf in the search for both Link and herself. But when her soul is transferred into the young Sheik's body to sleep for seven years the boy is like Link he will have seven years of his life missing because now he has a different role as Zelda's host. So when the seven years are over Sheik becomes Zelda and the story plot continues. My main question is what happens to Sheik next? Do the Goddesses cast Sheik into the abyss never to be seen from again....
Also in Hyrule Warriors Zelda once again becomes Sheik...so...sorry for the rant......

Canonly? Sheik is a woman because Sheik is just an alter ego of Zelda. BUT if you go by the manga narrative then the magic really did make Zelda a man until she remembered that she was Zelda again and became a woman again. This picture is just a fun au where they were different people somehow. I wrote a fic along similar lines yeeeaaaars ago (in 2004 I think?) but yeah. Canon woman, but fanon is whatever someone feels like XD

It was an arrangement they made at Sheik's own insistence. He was comfortable working in the shadows as a secondary guard to Zelda and wanted to make sure he'd be able to return to it easily, but, well, sometimes things don't go the way we think they will.

Did you read the manga on Ocarina of Time? It gives another version and I think that it is the one of the manga which is the more true: Sheik is a sheikah young person whose soul was awakened by Impa in Zelda. Link the said itself in the manga after having discovered how Zelda hid her : " It was Sheik! That does not count... For me, it was Sheik and nobody else... ".
I wondered : Sheik and Zelda are so linked... Like in every opus we have the right for a return of princess Zelda, why not a return of Sheik?
