I am oparticularly drawn to the American concept for the basis of this redesign. This piece is striking as it has almost a natural creature feel to it and it gives the creature more depth. I am interested in seeing this concept realized in clay as well as digital media. I am curious however, as to how fast he would be able to move and how he would defend himself aside from fire breathing. I am impressed with how the artist approached the fins and tail along the spine it gives the creatur an almost crocadilian look and feel. If this particular vision of Godzilla rampaged in New York I would want to be present to witness it.

Godzilla as a quadruple animal. I must say I love it Godzilla has always been shown as a bieped which makes sense the man in the suit. But there’s something fun and interesting about him adopting a more repltileian stance. 10/10

Let me guess some structures here. The proportion of back and front limbs seems to be inspired by facultative bipedal dinosaurs. I see a lot of spinosaurid on it, which makes a lot of sense, since we're talking about giant amphibious sailed carnivorous theropods. The neck is longer and somewhat more snake-like, probability to give it a better sight to use its atomic breath. I would guess those modified scales on neck and tail are where the nuclear fission occurs (possibly by some sort of fungi symbiosis) protecting its internal organs from radiation.

That's more or less how I was planning to redesign it my own. You've made an awesome job. I wouldn't put colors into it, for me a white plumber based pigment should cover its scales to protect it from radiation, just like the painting on some bomber planes.

TGping In reply to Valeriolete [2015-10-21 01:32:55 +0000 UTC]

That pigment idea is particularly genuis as well as the fungi symbiosis... but I did not think that far ahead on those aspects.

As far as some of the underlying structure goes, the arms are inspired by big cats, the tail = crocodilian/gecko like(stores energy), and of course overall theropod dinos. Oversized claws on the front from baryonix/spinosaurs.

I appreciate the insightful comments

Valeriolete In reply to TGping [2015-10-21 02:00:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I felt that spinosaurid claw. I pass a lot of time imagining and researching how kaijus and mythical creatures would work hahaha
It has some bag-like structures in the neck and tail, I see a lot of plasma being kept there, maybe by some magnetic field generated by potent modified neurons. Maybe he can store electrical energy from lightning in metalic nanostructures. I got a lot of theories on godzilla hahaha

The tail ia a bit weird as everybody is pointing out, but I think it might still work. It's a movie monster, weirdness isn't allways a bad thing really. And noone said that the tail is heavy, you don't know what's in there, maybe hollow bones made of some pretty light structure, or even holding monoatomic hydrogen (wich would actually turns it lighter).

You know I am not sure what to think of this… It is still recognizable in my eyes to be honest I really like it… Also I think Godzilla could work as a biped that could become quadruped at will… Think bear

TGping In reply to Tojunior [2014-03-25 22:46:32 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking iguanadon or a spinosaurid, I imagine Baryonyx could walk on all fours with those larger more muscular arms.

I love it when artists go way out of the box like this. It looks sikk! But there is a blurred line between what is and is not too far from the source material. You may have gone too far, but that doesn't take away from the peice.

I would actually love to see more of those comics you made with these guys.

Just came across your GZ design variants in a search just now - pretty impressive and very boss take on the big guy(s) - especially the Supercharged redo - but why is this pic so marred by the da watermark over it? It kinda detracts from the detail, unfortunately... <:*)~

TGping In reply to aladasian [2013-07-16 00:22:22 +0000 UTC]

I forget why I put that there... huh, I'll see about taking it off. I think I went overboard watermarking all of my original stuff this got thrown in the mix.

aladasian In reply to TGping [2013-07-16 08:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Prolly gather it's for the same reason everyone else does: someone would gank and stank it by saying that it's their own art if the artists didn't. :*\~

I normally come across pics like this that i (1) think have great design, definition and form structure and (2) would love to save for personal viewing, but then i see things like that and it not only compromises the overall detail of the portraiture but also completely distracts your focus away from the subject entirely (but that's my personal opinion).

Another interesting take on Godzilla, youve clearly thought out the physiology for an aquatic reptile that can go about on land. I like the wide tail for swimming.

Its a cool looking creature, but reminds me more of Zilla than Godzilla

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TGping In reply to KaijuDuke [2011-02-03 22:20:09 +0000 UTC]

Thats ok with me But I do want to point out some key differences:

Pingzilla(my design) has some distinct felyne features, foremost the arms, they are heavily muscled like a cats, where as zilla resembles a saurian build, IE a birdlike build. Not as muscular.

Pingzilla also has a distinct S-curve neck, which is very pronounced in theropods: T-rex, Allosaurus, utahraptor. Zilla has a neck parallel to the ground, much more like a lizard. Like an iguana.

Pingzilla has a giant muscular tail based on crocodilians and geckos(can store energy), zilla's is based on an iguana'a again. very thin/stiff/whiplike.

copypasta from another discussion and I hid your other post since it was a double post, not because it was offensive

Jenozillaroth [2010-12-06 18:16:35 +0000 UTC]

I really enjoy the thick tail balanced against the thick neck. The tails may be a little too heavy though from a balanced standpoint, but if it walks on all fours, then This is perfect. The head works very well, it is a perfect design, bringing Godzilla back to the roots in both dinosaur anatomy and Asian mythology. Overall, it is a unique concept and great design.

Just recognisable to be Godzilla, just alien enough to be something completely different. What was the inspiration for this little guy?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TGping In reply to AaronHasIssues [2010-07-05 22:25:34 +0000 UTC]

I was going for saurian in a lot of aspects, but also felyne(arms and ears) and crocadillian(tail and neck) were I thought it made sense.

here you can see where I fused the physiology of a cat and theropod [link]

I guess I thought that a Godzilla remake was a logical progression

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AaronHasIssues In reply to TGping [2010-07-05 22:50:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can definitely see the feline in it. I feel that was one of the critical elements missing from the American 'Zilla redesign - it was an impressive giant reptile, but Godzilla was more than just a 'reptile'.

Great work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TGping In reply to AaronHasIssues [2010-07-05 23:41:47 +0000 UTC]

Huh... never thought of it that way, and your totally right. Even if Godzilla was based on 'just' dinosaurs, dinosaurs are more than reptiles as well

I mean to say, your statement is literally and figuratively true

And thanks for the compliment!
