Today was a weird day. It started with my childhood friend, Anthony, calling me for the first time in 7 years. He asked if I wanted to come over. When I got there, he said he had just been dumped by his girl friend of the last 4 years. Soon after, he realized how few friends he had. His girlfriend was so overprotective and possessive, she didn’t allow him to talk to his friends or make any new ones. When I asked why he called me and not one of them, he said it was because he knew they would be upset with him, they wouldn’t forgive him. We hadn’t departed from each other on great terms, but he said of all his past friends, I was the one he knew would come to his side. I wanted to ask how he knew that, but considering I was here, I guess it didn’t matter. He said he couldn’t ever get anyone has wonderful as Alicia, so I spent time reassuring him he was a good person, and that any girl would be lucky to have him.
Now I was sitting in front of him, watching him cry in to his hands. “If I was a girl, I would date you. I think you’re great. You’re caring, you pick up on the small details about people, and you’re sensitive.” I said. He wiped tears from his cheeks and put his hands in his lap.
“Well, thanks. I guess it would be nice to have a girl who sees me for who I really am, but it doesn’t seem likely at this point.” He responded.
