Description
Funny thing about this drawing. It started out a lot different than it turned out, but when trying to fine-tune the eyes and hair I ended up with a design that looked a lot better than I intended. I wanted a visually distinct character. Maybe one that looked a little bit older. With a longer face and a different set of eyes. So, out came this Asrai character. Now, my entry-level research says an asrai is like an aquatic fairy, similar to a mermaid or selkie. So, here's a busty asrai who I plan to maybe draw or something."I remember this one time when I was really young. I was walking home from a trip into town when I can across a lake. I had passed by a few times before, but this time I was walking around the other side. While I was, I noticed something shiny in the corner of my eye, sitting at the bottom of this lake. It was a cool Summer day. Lots of clouds. But still enough light to shine off of whatever it was and catch my attention.
We brownies happen to have an affinity for shiny things. It's a bit...primal. If you were to put something shiny in the corner of a room, and then put a few brownies in the other, they'd probably take a few passing glances at it. We're civilized and above outright going for it, but it will hold some of our attention, that's for sure.
So, there I am. Young. A bit stupid. But willing to take the risk. Brownies can't breathe underwater but we can go a long time without drowning. I stripped down to my skivvies and hopped in.
I start making my way for the bottom, towards the shiny object, and it gets darker and darker. No idea how light got all the way down there. So, I'm getting a bit skittish. I can't see more than a few few from me.
Then I see something in the distance. Something moving.
I look again, and it's moving in my direction.
And then out of the darkness comes an asrai. With long flowing dark hair, wide eyes, a curvaceous figure. And she is at least ten times my size. It was all really...ethereal. Like she was this goddess that had graced me with her presence. I was both enthralled and unbelievably scared.
She seemed to have some kind of interest in me as she swam gently up to me and met me eye-to-eye. I wasn't sure if she was just looking at me or preparing to eat me. She was just...really big. Probably the biggest...anything that I had seen in a while. I didn't see a lot of people who were over a few inches tall. But she was, to me, massive.
Then...she just left. With a wave. And a smile. Into the darkness of the lake.
Never did find that shiny thing..."

I have noticed that. But I think that's just how it went down.
Morrigan's bangs were meant to give her some kind of visual personality. Sort of big and oafish. Plus, it ended up looking nice. I think this big, burly character wouldn't look so much like it if she had the wide eyes I tend to draw. But that might not be true.
As for this....I dunno. I was just spitballing random character designs, mostly from the face downward, and it just came out like this. Hair over the eye. Maybe it implicates...shyness or something like that.

To be honest I usually look it over afterwards. Though there are several guides to comics and cartoons out there with a section on recognizable silhouettes and distinct designs.
