Thanks!
What makes you think that ? I was very well aware that RISING would be completely different from MGS ^^.
In fact, I really like MGR, expecially the gameplay. Platinum Games really did a great job there. I think it would still have went better with the story they planned originally, between 2 and 4, but for how much Kojima Games struggled with RISING and how little time Platinum got to "fix" that mess, it turned out pretty good.

What made me think that? This sentence of yours:
Β«So i've replayed Metal Gear Solid 1 - 3 (played 4 not too long ago) BECAUSE Metal Gear Rising Revengeace coming out tomorrowΒ».
-That "because" made the whole difference. And since MGR has nothing to do with MGS gameplay and story (it's a side story after MGS4), there is no need to play the MGS series before MGR. At the time there were people misscalling it "Metal Gear Solid Rising" and got disapointed when the game came out.
I like MGR for it's action but it turned out to be freakin'repetitive: enemies are slow and dumb, you slice and dice all the time without cutting anything at all (non realistic), and except for bosses, there's no enemy health bar to be sure how much is there left to do eliminate and move on.
The original story would not make sense because of Raiden's apparence in MGS4. His advanced body tecnology and looks could only make sense once the Patriots computers were offline, this means after MGS4.
The MGS series are my favorite game series, beside some Beat'em Ups and a few puzzle games. But i agree that it would be quite interesting to know how Raiden turn out to be transformed into a cyborg to keep on living when in MGS4, Rose said he would go out for days and returned home full of injuries. What were those "cuts and bruises" that made him impossible to live without an artificial body?
And since he would go out to pick up fights, that's because he wanted to die that much due to his torturing past as a killer! So why tha'hell was he turned into a cyborg? What's the point? To give his life a meanning?
-I don't think so! Remember that he got so damn injured fighting against Vamp? Stupid injuries that could have been avoided if he didn't show off so much and didn't had a death wish within? Why tha'hell he didn't cut off Vamp's head in the end of that fight? If Vamp's was such a badass, what was the point on Raiden fighting him if Solid Snake had to fighting as well near the end of the game?... Ohh, Kojima, what a crappy story part...

I recently replayed 1-4 (though couldn't finish one because the second disc was missing...) and 3 is by far my favourite, because of the story and the characters. The HD collection is on my list, up to now I only have the ps1/2 versions.
