Description
The title may be a bit misleading, but this DID start life as a study.Wanted to do something to get me out of my art rut, so I decided to do a study of a metal object.
Just took it a bit to far, once the ol' perfectionism kicked in.

Oh, I know what this is!
I can't remember off the top of my head what it's called, but this was a jousting helmet. The jouster would ride with his head tilted down so he could see through the gap, and would jerk his head up at the last minute so his opponent couldn't put his lance through the space.
Awesome piece.

It's a Frogmouth helmet, made sometime at the end of the crusades and and proceeded up to the 16th century almost. There are literally thousands of variations of this helmet.

Yeah, I found out a few years ago. Still, thanks for the answer.

Thank you!
Metal is a bit tricky for me to draw, so these studies were useful, and fun.

Very well done. I'm an art student who for some reason doesn't own a tablet in this day and age. Is there anything you would recommend to someone who's looking to get into this whole digital art business?

The Bamboo tablet is usually a good place to start, and is cheaper than most.
It's a bit on the small side, which is my only complaint, and why I use an Intuos.
Other than that, look around and see which works for you.

I love all the imperfections you gave the metal and leather - I think that's what really makes this piece. It looks like something that had actually seen some action, as opposed to a decorative headgear. Wow!

It really is quite the interesting helmet, and I tried my best to capture it.
Glad that you think I have, thank you!
