Description So it's been a long time since I've done one of these edits/traces and it might be a little strange to people to see this considering the various disparaging things I've said about SS4 but... I mean it is a part of the franchise so I thought I'd do something with it and on top of that explore a rarity for me and that's a fan-concept I dig. So like many franchises, Dragon Ball is no stranger to the world of fan-created media whether it be fanfilms, fanfiction or fancomics and doujin. Hell, a few of the people working on Dragon Ball today such as Toyotarou and dragongarow LEE actually got their start in making doujin. One such author that hasn't quite made it to that point yet is YoungJiJii, an incredibly talented artist who is probably most well known for his Dragon Ball AF fanmanga that's still going strong today and for the plethora of times he has teamed up with other doujin authors on many projects with the one we're particularly focusing on being DBVS which is mostly about, as the title suggests, basically crafting match-ups between different characters with it starting out by focusing on a fight between Goku Black and the GT timeline's Goku where we see a take on how Goku Black gained Super Saiyan RosΓ©. It's a bit of fun fluff I quite like that eventually takes an interesting turn. Taking inspiration from canon and how Goku's body absorbed the God Ki after going SSG for the first time, this manga has a moment where GT Goku absorbs the God Ki being output from SSR and uses it to power up SS4 even further which leaves us with a very neat design. The original granted kind of looks like SS4 but with light purple hair and maybe a slightly more pinkish hue to the fur but considering the nature of it, it's understandable that it doesn't change much. That being said, I've always been curious about the possibility of what could happen if you take this form and make it more in line with a God form's design philosophy so I came up with this.

So the first thing I did was draw whole new eyes for Goku from scratch and reshape the chin to make it a little rounder and a little shorter. Reason for this was to create an immediate contrast with regular SS4 and tap into the softer, more streamlined approach the god forms have. I then drew the eyebrows and nose from scratch and set about doing the tracing process. The image I did it off of comes from a full-page shot where the form was revealed and in working on this, I opted to tweak the hair so that there was significantly less going down his back, I flipped around the position of two spikes and for a good couple of the hair spikes I just slimmed them down either because I just liked how it looked or at points it helped change the silhouette just enough which as a result kind of gave me a hairstyle that's sort of like a more compact version of Gogeta's SS4 look which considering I've always felt that style worked a bit more for Goku honestly makes me happy. The biggest change ultimately came down to the colors. Now a lot of SSG4 designs have a tendency to just take the blue of SSB and make that the fur color and make the red from SSG the hair and... honestly looking back I'm not the biggest fan of that look. I find it has a tendency to look way too saturated in color and it's hard to then work out a color palette where it doesn't just hurt the eyes to look at. So I primarily used for the hair the original purple which is this neat pale color that I chose to match by going for something that's a little desaturated and pastelish. For the eyes, I used an image of Ultra Ego from the Full Color Super manga and edited it accordingly to get the colors I wanted for the iris, eyeliner, skin, fur and pants. For the belt and armbands, I opted to use Granolah for these colors tweaked for my purposes and the end result is this. Now if you want to read into color theory and meanings, purple and pink usually are associated with strength and kindness respectively with pink additionally being a color that's associated with innocence and kindness which... I think fits for Goku in terms of the form. I've said it before on my long post going over my issues with SS4 but to reiterate it here, to me I like it when the character and their nature influences the design and to me, this is the kind of aesthetic that fits Goku instead of just looking aggressive for the sake of it. I hope you all like this and hey, maybe this will inspire me to get back into the groove of things and if you can? Give YoungJiJii's stuff a look. It may not necessarily be your thing as fanwork goes but the art he does is incredible.
