Charlie could barely hear herself think.

Within her head, thousands of metaphorical and dozens of literal gears were turning. Her muscles twitched, sending spikes rippling up her arms, failing to force their way through her dress.

Ahead of her, the invaders surged forwards. The strange, leathery-skinned creatures with their grey uniforms, and their strange weapons.

Many of their faces were obscured by those terrible masks, their eyes barely visible through the windows, but still clearly filled with anger.

There was only one thing she could think to do. She raised her hand toward the advancing men, and concentrated, channeling all her frustration towards them.

That’s the last thing she remembered before her vision turned pink, then black.
