Description
What a Forerunner Promethean warrior in action might have looked like (on a rare occasion when they're not sitting back on a starship drowning the enemy into millions of drones). To avoid any confusion, by "Promethean" I mean one of the original, flesh-and-blood ones described in the books and not the Didact's robot toys we fight in Halo 4. I've been intrigued by the more esoteric aspects of the Forerunners' combat capabilities since the sweeping descriptions in Greg Bear's Forerunner novels; hence the warrior pictured here is forgoing conventional pew-pew guns and unleashing more exotic weaponry, flanked by two attendant Sentinels (the same class as the Onyx kind). I picture the suit shown here as a medium class combat skin, which is where in my headcanon the Forerunners' suit designs and weaponry start to get less humanoid-shaped and more abstract. The pose and some elements of the design are influenced by Halo 4 concept art.Related content

This is exactly how I never imagined Prometheans. Thank you, it's simply amazing!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it, even though it is a bit different from 343i's aesthetics. Probably because that one old Bungie concept still keeps influencing my headcanon.

it is always lovely to come across something different! diversity makes more room for ideas.
I don't believe I've seen this bungie concept before. You've gone and made me curious, where can I find it? It sounds lovely since it's so influential.

Here - it was done as a conceptual exploration for Halo 3 (I believe) by Bungie's wonderful Isaac Hannaford. For this piece the most visible inspiration is the eye, but I really like the silhouette and all those faceted interlocking surfaces.

That is a really lovely design. I like how everything is interconnected making it smooth. I think 343I has definitely stayed true to this design in some aspects of their own work. I've seen this around before during some of my personal exploration of the design language. I had no idea that this was developed during the time of Halo3.
Personally I am quite happy with how the forerunners turned out in the end, but its intriguing to see how it could have been coming from Bungie.

I'd think their helms would be more like the Knight faces, but with visors and various different physical 'makes'. This one seems to be a Sentinel Director of sorts.
That old Forerunner armor concept, with the Sentinel-like head, would be a nice suggestion to merge into this. I agree with the concept; but perhaps more metallic robes flowing?

The idea for the simplistic face actually came from that old Bungie concept. I like it because it gives off a very ascetic and inscrutable impression. I'd also imagine there would be a lot of room for variety among the armors of individual Forerunners so maybe this one just prefers the simple look.

Mhm. Many brands of armour, many brands of weapon.

Have to admit, this is pretty cool! I've always tried to imagine what a true Forerunner might look like in actual combat skin. I would truthfully say this does the series some serious justice!
