Description
EDIT UPDATE:Jersey, the Coyote (Canis latrans).
Still young, but apparently someone had mistakenly tried to make a pet of this one as it was very young when discovered and thought to be a shepX.
It's illegal to keep this native animal and it was turned over to the zoo.
They're hoping they can re-introduce to the wild.
Unfortunately, has become acclimatized to humans...
and that's not a healthy attitude for a Coyote.
Many farmers or ranchers finding a coyote on their land would lay out poison baits, traps
or just shoot her on sight.

What a beautiful creature. How sad, now that it's been domesticated, that they will attempt to now make it wild again. Poor creature won't last 5 minutes!!!!!!

Yes.
They are beautiful and are wonderfully designed for their place in the ecological grand scheme.
They fit it much better than they do as someone's idea of a pet.
Thanks for ing!

Ranchers say that coyotes are nothing but vermin or pests.
Well from one point of view, so are the ranchers.
Not only do ranchers and the USDA kill thousands of keystone species (such as coyotes) every year, but they also intrude on/and or destroy natural habitat. For the most part, ranching isn't really good for the environment, which is why i'm a vegan.

Size & methods make a huge difference as far as impact on a natural environment goes, be it Ranching or Crop farming.

I live on a ranch, so I can honestly say that coyotes are pests. They kill more lambs than I can count, and spread disease like wildfire.

I can understand the sentiment.
To those on farm & ranch, having such successfully adaptive predators in close proximity to herd stocks is quite counterproductive.
It's a sad truth, but predation on the young of other species is one of the most common occurrences in nature.
Coyote take lambs for the same reasons humans do - an easy meal = survival. While I can't prove it, I wouldn't doubt that like some humans, there are some Coy that enjoy a meal of veal.
Yes, they will spread whatever pathogens & diseases that they carry...
however, no more so than any other creature.
They're main disease contamination issues are the K9 strains of Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis & Parvo.
Of course, like any wild animal, they also naturally disseminate whatever parasites they may be carrying;
They're viable transport species for various mites, fleas & ticks, as are most animals (including man).
They are also known carriers of Sarcoptic mange as well as a number of internal worms (heart, hook, and tapeworm).

Thanks, and yes they are... though not one wanted in urban environments.

So cute!
It really looks like a pet when it is treated like one... in the wild they posture are really different!
