Description
This is/was Tanya. These are from a trip to the Toronto Zoo from back in 1983...
LOL! back when they were called "Siberians", not Amur Tigers.
I don't know if this cat is still there, but I highly doubt it. After all this time, the cat would very likely have passed on already. I'm going to have to see about contacting the Zoo to track down what happened to her.
**Many, many thanks to for discovering more info for me on this goreous cat!
"She was born at the Oklahoma City Zoo in 1970, and after spending a few years at the Indianapolis Zoo she arrived in Toronto in November 1973. She was indeed hand raised and never had any offspring (at least at Toronto). She passed away in October 1989"
I got a chance to talk with one of the big cat handlers for quite a while that day. Tanya had been a hand-reared cub. Unfortunately come mating time, she wanted nothing what-so-ever to do with a male tiger.
LOL! She was much more interested in her human handlers than any male they put in with her.
If I'm not mistaken, she even beat the crap out of their massive star male "Brum" when they tried to breed her with him.
I just LOVED Tanya's colors.
The focus isn't as sharp as I'd have liked it to be, but it turned out pretty good considering I was leaning against the public barrier railing & shooting through 2 layers of wire mesh.
