Street/buildings in the Melbourne CBD,VIC,Australia.Β HDR in photomatix, tweaked in photoshop.Wallpapers are downloadable for 100 points, which includes a .zip file containing 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 versions of the photo in both cropped and stretched versions.

Melbourne is a really nice city, Detroit definitely has it's own charm from the photos I've seen though.

It really all depends on where in Detroit and what buildings and settings you get to capture. Luckily the last HDR image I produced is a cathedral right by my house so it was easy to capture, and the cathedrals are some of the nicest architectures in the city but other than that, outside of the yard, you mainly have to aim for street photography in these kinds of settings, which I'm not totally comfortable with yet. I'm taking photojournalism in school at the moment and it's completely different than just regular photography. I'm not all for going up to people to take their pictures, or going into places that are abandoned. Not here at least. We have plenty of abandoned homes and buildings, and I don't mean to sound stereotypical or derogatory about this, but they are usually filled with druggies. And that really is the truth. At about 6 months pregnant, I'm not risking my life to go into abandoned homes and buildings that I've never stepped foot in for some quality pictures when the result may be me and my unborn child in danger. And it's really aggravating because I would literally love to get some good abandoned photography, regular or HDR. I think they'd both make some really good pieces. But it's not worth getting hurt or killed over; whereas in a suburban area that has less crime, you happen upon an abandoned building that isn't /as bad/ and it's a bit safer, the area's better, and so on. But Detroit....it just doesn't work that way.

How would I go about finding some urbex groups?

www.uer.ca/ is a pretty good resource for urbexing in general, some googling turned up www.meetup.com/Motor-City-Phot⦠which looks like they do urbex tours, although you'd have to pay for them from the look of it.
