The Gunstar Cougar was designed to operate as a lone attack ship (the Attack Submarine of space), hunting down enemy convoys & striking without warning, destroying as many vessels as possible, then jumping away.
It could also be used as a heavy escort for Battlestars going deep into enemy territory on search & destroy missions.

i think i see triple fixed heavy guns in each flight pod. am I right or are they something else?

This ship only has one flight pod running along the belly, the wings each hold 3 massive 6 meter bore Rail-Guns, with the ammo contained in the wing section above the guns.

This ship is the modern version of the Tiger class , itβs basically the Dreadnought Battleship of the BSG Universe.
