Hard at work on Gangfield's redesign!

I've been feeling extremely limited by his old head construction. So here's me test driving what I've revamped so far. I'm quite happy with how he's turning out. I can't begin to express how much easier it is to draw him now. Looking forward to trying more and more complicated and wacky things with this head construction method.

Also popped in a process pic. I almost always draw in three steps and I lighten the drawing at each phase with my putty eraser. I do my best to draw fast and focus on the picture as a whole. The aim is to effectively get an idea across and not to create a spotless artwork. So in-depth anatomy goes out the window. It's a waste of time for my purposes.

And yes, if Gangfield and Dennis were left to their own devices, they would survive literally on tea and biscuits alone.

Gangfield is by far my favorite character in everything you've written and drawn.(so goofy and perfect ) I've read every word and scrolled happily through every drawing.(All is beyond words in it's supreme awesomeness btw) I'm a fellow self-trained artist and I love writing, but I must say that you are like a goddess to me. Keep it up, and try not to doubt yourself. You are amazing. I mean it. I even made this account JUST to read more Valiard Mansion XD. Luv ya!

I love these Gangfield expressions!

I like the portrait of him. I like how it shows the details of his face; I like the kinda boxy shape of his face, actually! And he's got a nice smirk there, friendly and cool. And his hair is always fun.

I like seeing your process sketches at the bottom, of him curled up around the book in his kinda childlike, silly way, as he scarfs down on snacks (and shares with Dennis!) I love how this pic isn't just fun in and of itself, it shares a lot about Gangfield's personality, with the kinda messy, childlike way he sits around. And I also love that he shares snacks with Dennis! That friendship is really cute.

HOWEVER. My favorite is the scene in the top right, where he gets his hair frazzled up by the strong gust of wind. That makes me smile every time! I love the look on his face as he struggles to keep his composure in the first "panel," how his cheeks and his eyes and his hair get pushed back by the wind. AndΒ  then I LOVE the grumpy scowl as he sets his jaw defiantly in the second panel, all the while his hair is a mess. So fun!

And the colouring isn't that good! I just got a really cool brush. It's like a normal round brush with a teensy bit of texture. I use it for eeeeeeverrryyytthhhiiiinnnng!!!

Sure I'll show step by step if you want! Is there a specific character's process you'd like to see?

The three-step pic in this deviation is pretty much as far as I usually go in the head construction. It's only when the angle gets difficult that I resort to measurements and things. But again, I'm happy to show a more in-depth process.
