Description
So, just this past week, I finally got myself one of those two major HD Consoles so I have more options than what the Wii offered. However, I noticed a slight problem with it...I can't read a damn thing! OK, maybe if I squint hard enough I can see parts of the text, but it can make learning all those tips and tricks and reading key story elements a daunting task.
The reason? I use a SDTV.
...Hey! Stop laughing!! I'm not exactly rolling in dough! And for the record, it does display in colour and, no, I don't think the dodo is still alive.
Anyway, the obvious solution is to upgrade to HD, but really, that's kind of insulting... Is HD great? I'm sure it is, but I didn't feel I needed it until this small text problem. Guess I better save up now...
I drew this out of frustration and mostly to make myself laugh. It isn't much, more of a rush job, but I enjoyed doing it.

I feel you, man. It took me a long while for me to switch to HD during my first year or so of owning an X-Box and had the same problem during that time.
As for HD, the experience really is worthwhile as long as you know the right product to pick. I have a Vizio 42" TV. You won't know what you are missing until you actually see an HDTV, and with a game playing on it, no less.
But hey, no better way to leak out those frustrations, right?

Bah, HD isn't that much better except for cartoons and video games.

That's the thing. That's all I use the telly for!

Personally I use it to dry my clothes and drown out the noise of the old man locked in the basement.

Oh yeah...I've heard of that issue before. It's one of those little issues that completely slips your mind when you're purchasing something you've always wanted. And then after everything is all set up and rarin' to go...boom, it hits.
Sorry to hear that dude, that sucks a lot. =/ The comic's pretty funny and makes light of your situation, but yeah I am pretty sorry to hear about that...

Meh, I can get over it. The games are still very playable, if a bit hard to decipher with my eyes. No need to take pity on material goods. They're just that: Objects. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was generally angry. More just annoyed.

Heh, true that. I was just sayin', it's kind of disappointing you don't get the full package deal...but ah well.

Haha... this reminds me of a very similar situation a friend had with his HD system and the SDTV he was playing it on, so I'm aware of the situation at hand. It is kind of sad when the way a game is presented almost forces you to get a new TV in order to fully enjoy it. I guess that soon enough, I may also have this problem, seeing as how I plan to get a PS3 myself one of these days and don't exactly have plans to buy an HDTV to go with it. I guess I'll see one day...

I can kinda understand why. As someone who pretty much gags at the site of a monitor that still uses 800x600 resolution, no buddy would want to experience text the size of your average balloon. Having them too big is as bad as having them too small.
But you'd think some games and films would at least have the option to adjust your settings based on your TV, y'know?

Yeah, it's understandable, but I feel it's just a plot to get people to invest in HDTVs when they may not have one or can really afford one. As you said, just the option of being able to adjust certain things based on which resolution you're using shouldn't be that tough, but instead, those with SDTVs are being forced to do some unusual things just to fully enjoy something they've invested in.
Sure, the amount of HDTVs being sold is constantly increasing, but it still seems at least a tad unfair.

We switched to HD quite a while ago, and it makes a huge difference... before my fiance's parents got an hd tv, whenever we brought the system over to their place, we played a game called "which blur is the one we're supposed to click on?"
We had just become so adjusted to it, that not having it was weird... alot harder to adjust back too... And I can't say all the text in the fallout series is at a comfortably readable size...

Sounds like a very fun game indeed.
And by "fun", I mean "infuriatingly annoying."

XDD at times, yes... especially when you run across a pack of Deathclaws armed with only a close range combat weapon (equivalent to taking a baseball bat to a tyrannosaurus)
