Someone asked about this like...years ago. And I just never got around to it for whatever reason. But anyway, cecaelia do hatch from eggs and curiously start life as featureless little blobs. Over the course of 50 years they grow into full adulthood. From that point they don't change much into their elder years, except that they tend to gather barnacles.

They spend their hatching to bubbler years eating tiny plankton and plants. They grow teeth as children and begin to eat meat. They also don't grow bones or "solidify" until their child stage, so they're really squishy and able to hide in really tiny spaces. Even as hatchlings they instinctively flock to their parents for safety and won't stray too far from their nest.
