This is the Phoenix egg from Dragonquest. The shadow on the bottom was a massive pain in the arse, and there are STILL a few errors I was not able to get out. If you can make the shadow line up perfectly, you are awesome.SVG: [link]

Duplicating the shape and adjusting nodes does a good enough job, but sometimes you might want to rely on clipping instead. At least in Inkscape, stacking even the exact same curves results in a visible hairline.

I made this before I knew how to clip shapes. I've been meaning to go back and fix it, but I've never gotten around to it.
