Backstory:

Jessica Jones, formerly a young classmate of Peter Parker's, once had a crush on the young boy... until fate intervened, with the Spider-Bite interrupting her confession and his attitude towards her was misunderstood as pity. And then she was hit with odd chemicals after a truck crash... which resulted in her gaining superhuman powers. Using this oppurtunity, Jessica took up the identity of "Jewel" and fought crime... for a time.

Then the Purple Man, a known criminal known as Zebediah Killgrave, a former spy given powers by a similar accident, but was a much more malicious being. Using his mind control abilities, he kept Jessica, using her for both sordid deeds and crimes... until the Avengers freed her and offered her a spot on the team, which she would decline (though she'd stay a lowkey ally of them). Suffering from the PTSD of the experience, and depressed by the fact no one noticed her nearly year long absence, Jessica became a Private Eye, dedicated to helping solve super powered Crime and other such with a hardened outlook.

Since then, she's become the wife to Luke Cage, meanwhile she's joined him on Heroes for Hire and the Defenders, and she's even taken up superheroics at times, taking the mantle of "Knightess" and dealt with all sorts of shenanigans and situations, her friends and family helping her heal and lighten up since...
