Step 3: Line Thickness and Line Darkening

Step 3 is a fairly important one. I take the time to darken all lines and thicken some. In general the basic silhouette of Rei's body uses thick lines, her eyes, her hair (since she's black haired it's kind of a pain to keep its shape once shaded) and the rest just get darkened.

Honestly there are times when I think the picture looks better unshaded which is usually a good sign you got the line thickness right, so experiment as you see fit
