EclipseAtTwilight [2008-01-16 22:18:24 +0000 UTC]

A very ironic name for such a stagnant and still lake The colour in this is incredible, how did you get the edges to fade to black, was it that Pan tilt head?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-name1ess In reply to EclipseAtTwilight [2008-01-17 07:29:18 +0000 UTC]

hehe thank you
The Pan Tilt Head is actually the head i use on my tripod... "Vignetting" is caused by a reduction in light at the edge of the lens when the sides of the lens become visible, (have seen this at work with cheap wide angles)... anyway it results in dark corners in the image. You also get a similar effect when stacking filters. There is an option in photoshop when using raw to fix this, however i like to shove it the other way sometimes to create the effect

EclipseAtTwilight In reply to The-name1ess [2008-01-17 22:35:38 +0000 UTC]

It's a great effect when the picture is dark, but I suppose if you're trying to take a really bright shot then it would look a little off. I've never encountered the effect before on my wide angle, maybe because it's a Nikkor. What lens were you using?

The-name1ess In reply to EclipseAtTwilight [2008-01-18 07:24:41 +0000 UTC]

yeh i dont think you will ever get it in a cannon or Nikon Lens... i think it was a sigma 10 - 22 or something, at 10mm, you could actually see the edges of the lens

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EclipseAtTwilight In reply to The-name1ess [2008-01-19 05:31:23 +0000 UTC]

I could imagine at 10mm you probably would...ah well, what can you do, apart from post editing or purchasing a more expensive lens

And what's a circular polariser

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-name1ess In reply to jonathondeans [2008-01-17 07:05:35 +0000 UTC]

Circular polariser is a filter, pretty much can reduce light, it can spin on the end of your lens and depending on the angle which you turn it, it gives you different effects. Its mostly used for removing reflection, darkening the sky to a nice darker blue and makes your clouds nice and fluffy, nicer saturation of colours etc.
Thanks
