Diesel Ten wasn't always a grumpy brute. He once had a name, Dominic. And he once had a kind, caring romantic partner, an EMD GP9 named Cressida.
But when she died, so did his happiness, and the Diesel Ten we all know and fear was born.
I made this a while ago, back when I had the original copy of my fanfic. (Lady and Thomas are on separate tracks, curse the 2D limitations of sprite art).

I've grown quite fond of this story over the past weeks, it has a well-thought plot, back story and pacing. I am curious to how D10 gained his current paintjob too, and how he entered the Golden, under Mesa Roja livery. Was that before or after he got sent away? It would also be interesting to read about his arrival on Sodor and how and why the other engines started to fear him (apart from the fake TATMR story). I also wonder how you'll include DOTD into this, and why he seems to be so close to the Iron twins in that movie, how did he get to know them? Was he initially sent for scrap perhaps? It's nice to see the steamers warming up to him, and accept him, like Gordon did in his speech.
I look forward to the next chapters!

It was so sad! Humans are the true evil force in this story and I just feel so bad for both Diesel 10 and Lady! I'm glad Sir Topham Hatt is so kind to them though, I can't wait for the next chapter!

And now you see the underlying message beneath this story. Every behavior, both positive and negative, of the Lifers is learned from humans, a sort of allegory for parenting. One must be careful in how they raise their children.
The bullies at Muffle Mountain and Mesa Roja weren't always antagonistic. Originally they were normal, everyday locomotives, their near-scrapping-experience humbling them. But after their respective railways got new, biased management who let them do what they wanted without consequence, they grew conceited and took on the attitudes of their new owners. Basically, James in S22, only worse because there was never anyone in power who reprimanded them.
Lifer psychology is much more malleable than that of a human's, though, so given the right time and experience and they will grow wiser and kinder (like Diesel did in Sodor the Early Years). And they'll realize that there are much, MUCH worse things out there once Boomer reveals his movement.

That is very true. Even a Lifer as smart as Nick was made to feel horrible about himself because of what the Mesa Roja controller said to him, not unlike how children of abusive parents often internalize their parents' insults.

No Locomotive Lifer deserves to be scrapped! but the only exceptions are Vinnie (And his two friends) , Kim, Miley & Taylor, those six steam engines are a disgrace and all deserve to be scrapped!

I bet both Thomas and Philip will be shocked when they find that out and then Thomas will defiantly feel sympathy for Diesel 10 (Granted he already does now) and Phillip would defiantly grow closer to Diesel 10 just like in the TCC.
I just wish we could both at the same time try and finally convince people like Rachel (TobyandMavisforever) to actually stop being stubborn about Diesel 10 showing a good side and actually give this fanfic a shot and see what the true message of it really is!

Maybe they will figure it out at the 2022 Great Railway show, assuming that both of them and Vinnie go there. It's great that Thomas has finally learned the error of his ways and treats Diesel 10 better now, I bet he feels even worse about how he treated him given that he just learned of Diesel 10's tragic past.
I feel the same way, though perhaps people like Rachel just have too much of the mentality of the Mesa Roja controller and the woman who sealed Cressida's fate in them to give this fanfic and Diesel 10 in general a chance.

I know, to be honest I bet Thomas felt bad before, but learning more about Diesel 10's love life I bet he feels even worse now.
If Vinnie does participate in the 2022 Great Railway show that would be the perfect opportunity for Diesel 10 to settle some old scores with the steam engine that made his early life a misery (And I don't think Thomas and Philip are quite done yet with Vinnie too) as well as Lady getting back at Kim for what she did to her at Muffle Mountain!
I mean don't get me wrong Rachel seems like a nice person but I think she should for once just put aside her hatred for Diesel 10 X Lady (I actually like Diesel 10 X Cressida more now even though she is dead) as well as Diesel 10 being anything other than a monster for a bit and just read this fanfic and see it's true message.

I personally much prefer Diesel 10 x Lady since I've always seen Cressida as more of a motherly figure towards everyone including Diesel 10 at first since he seemed to be the child among the Mesa Roja diesels initially but Diesel 10 x Cressida isn't that bad especially considering how quickly Diesel 10 seemed to mature, I mean he wasn't even quite two years old when he did his first protest against those who run Mesa Roja. Rachel has been nothing but condescending towards me for my ships and opinions about the show (mainly because I support Ladyten, don't see Diesel 10 as a monster and I usually like most of the diesels more than the steam engines) but I wonder if Rachel has seen my stamp with the Dr. Seuss quote from this fanfic.

Diesel Ten matured really fast, a feature common among more recently-built engines. When he and Cressida became a couple she was mentally 29 after twenty-six years of life, while he was already mentally 28 despite being only four years old physically. Mental rather than physical age is the deciding factor in Lifer couples. (Granted, all Lifers are born mentally ten years old, but still.)

I always thought of it as that way too. I mean if you go by basis age, most steam/diesel Lifer couples would huge age differences that many wouldn't be ok with but going by maturity and other relationship dynamics such as how Thomas has always seen Edward as a fatherly figure despite that the age difference between them based on basis isn't that much when you think about it.

Don't forget about Emily too with how even though it has been stated that she was built a year before Edward yet mental age wise she acts nowhere near as old as him (Granted in Ballad of Dominic it was stated that she was brought to life in the 1960s around the same time as Thomas).

Also, it was Rosie's age that I confirmed in the fic. Though I will also confirm that Emily was brought to life in the early 1950s. Fun fact: her dislike of being known as just a genetic clone of another locomotive led to her search of an identity and thus her journey to Sodor.

Same year as he was built, 1896. The Furness Railway really loved Lifers even if most of their engines and rolling stock never came alive in the first place.

I just tell that Diesel 10 will be the hero of this story against PT Boomer. I'm not sure if there will be any more than 2 songs in this story but I can imagine a scene where Diesel 10 has to save his friends from PT Boomer and in a moment where he doesn't think he can save them, Cressida's ghost would appear to him to encourage him and there would be a song similar to I Am Moana (from Moana) with Diesel 10 as Moana and Cressida as Grandma Tala except instead the end of the song having Moana sing "I am Moana', it would be Diesel 10 proudly singing 'I am Dominic!'. I don't know if that makes any sense but I can't listen to I Am Moana without thinking of that.

TUGS........ One of the greatest shows ever made! And the ending theme of each episode is one of the best and most heart pulling themes ever made as well (At specific theme I showed you was the ending theme from the last episode).

I'd actually having the ending song from Moana as the ending of this fanfic, I just think it would fit so well! Moana is one of the best Disney movies ever and although the first half of the movie reminds me more of how Thomas matured in The Adventure Begins, the second half of the movie reminds me more of Diesel 10's struggle in this fanfic.

But you remember that big diesel I told you that saved two of my OCs (Elena & Trudy) & Puffa? Well I now really want that Diesel to be Cressida! Because I'm so sad at she died in this fanfic that I wish I could use her for another AU where not only does she survive (But still gets sent away) but also other engines of Thomas's class came to life as well (Since Trudy is an E2 like Thomas, but in Ballad of Dominic it states that Thomas was the only E2 to ever came to life and he didn't came to life until 1960).

As long as Nerdinator doesn't mind (He said his OCs are willing to work for other authors, just make sure you credit me) but hay I'm not the only one to use OCs that were originally created by other people. I mean just look at Victor Tanzig, in his Stories of Sodor series he is using OCs called Eric, Lily, Colin & Adam, yet those OCs were originally created by WildNorWester, the creator of Sodor Through the Years and they originally appeared in that series (And it should be noted that in Sodor Through the Years series Adam died but in Stories of Sodor he's still alive).
Also Curtis-Parish is going to be using Daniella (Yes the same Daniella created by SynthaRoboto) in his own published books for The Railway Series, in which she is going to be the adopted mother of not only Thomas but the entire E2 class as well as she saved them from scrap.
So I don't see a problem of using Cressida for my take on T&F.

Fair enough. At first I was thinking of shipping Cressida with BoCo and seeing Cressida as a big sister to Diesel 10. But after reading this recent chapter I actually think Cressida and Diesel 10 do make a fine couple (But I think Diesel 10 X Lady is still decent).

I was thinking the same thing, but Diesel 10 x Lady will always be above Diesel 10 x Cressida for me. You should show her that stamp, if she approves of the message but still refuses to check out the fanfic, than I think that'd be pretty hypocritical of her.

If only she was still alive........... I would have loved it if she somehow instead of dying, was actually sent away and repaired but everyone still thinks shes dead but one day comes to Sodor and surprises everyone (Including Diesel 10 and Lady).
I've sent Rachel that stamp through notes but she hasn't replied yet.
