This one was A LOT of job... Jack and all the characters are made of sugar paste. Lots of fun, too.
I was so happy the customer asked to make a cake with Jack Skellington! But sadly he didn't want to add Sally too

Sorry to bother you, but did you use wire to support the Jack Skellington figure or is the sugar paste able to support itself? Also is sugar paste better for making figures than fondant? Thank you.
I ask because I wanted to make a Jack Skellington figure for a fondant cake but I'm new to this. I have to say this cake is gorgeous! I love especially how the headstones look.
EDIT: Lol, a quick google search revealed to me that fondant and sugar paste are actually the same thing XD. Well my other question still stands.

Fondant and gumpaste are both sugar pastes. The ingredients are different. Gumpaste solidifies over 1 day, while fondant remains soft for many days (that's why is sused to cover the cakes). The figure here is made with a wire structure as you say, and i cobered it with gumpaste, the one that solidifies like a rock. I find this gumpaste better to make figures, because it will get hard, while fondant is soft... so for fine structures it can't support it's own weight and get shapeless. You can, of corurse, make stuff with fondant, like roses and flowers, but it wil ned to be well refrigerated, otherwise the heat can make it melt. Hope this helps.
