Description READ RIGHT TO LEFT

My first doujinshi! Woo! Go me!

Yeah, so this is Bittersweet, a romance doujinshi about Itachi Uchiha and Sakura Haruno from Naruto. I won't promise that this will ever get finished, but I'm certainly going to try! I'm hoping that if I force myself to make a page a week, I should be able to finish this....

Anyway, enjoy the story!

Also, constructive criticism is wanted. This is my first time making a serious comic, so I still have a lot to learn. Any criticism would be helpful!

And special thanks to The Idiot's Guide to Editing Manga that was very helpful with the fonts.

Horray! I'm so glad we get to see this, I remember you talking about it before and now we get to read it, yay!

I love how the paneling came out, that was my biggest problem when I did my first short comic. And your inking has a lovely clean look to it, very Naruto-ish. :3 The only thing that seems a bit off is Itachi's feet in the last panel seem a little too small, other than that, moar pages, roar!

You almost didn't get to see it. I started reading an ItaSaku fanfic (that is really good, by the way) and I kept thinking, "My idea is stupid! I can't draw it! No one will like it!" Fortunately, I finally just sat down and drew the first page and now I have to work on it! I'm still not sure if the idea is good, but you can't deny that isn't not different! I guess it doesn't matter, though, right? I'm enjoying drawing the doujinshi and my art is, hopefully, getting better! And in the end, that's all that really matters.

I planned the images on some lined paper (I only have so much computer paper and cardstock--plus lines keep me organized) and then thought about how I would place them. I didn't catch myself on this page (you're suppose to see the largest panel before you see Itachi's face--fortunately there wasn't any text or it might have been confusing), but I think I caught myself on the next page. I'm still learning, though, so there's bound to be mistakes.

Photoshop definitely helped in the realm of inking. I used my brush pens to fill in the black (I need to practice with my ink so that I don't ruin the markers) and then used Photoshop's levels to make the black, REALLY black. I'll have to bring my binder on the cruise and show you the non-computerized images.

I'm sure the anatomy is off in a few places...I don't plan bodies like I should. I basically drew his cloak first and then added some feet and a head. But I don't think that the anatomy is noticeably off. Or at least, I hope.

I'm working, I'm working! I swear!

By the way, do you have any good resource websites for comics/doujinshi? Currently I'm looking for English sound effects (I found Japanese sound effects easily, but I don't think I'm going to use them), but all I can find are sound clips. And, of course, anything is useful.

Darn straight you have to work on it! We need a conclusion to this awesome story! I say just go for it! No use worrying whether or not it's good, as long as you like it and you're happy with it then it worth pursuing. And like you said, if you enjoy it and you're hoping for your art to improve through this, then all the more reason to work on this comic. ^.^

It's okay if there's mistakes, I made plenty when I did those short few comics with Hamlet. That's why I like short comics so much, they're great practice for learning various art skills.

Yes please do! We can work on comics together, yay!

Naw, the anatomy looks fine to me with just the one exception I pointed out. I would recommend an anatomy class, but meh, I'm frustrated with mine right now. I don't know if I'm getting any better, but who knows, it might help a bit.

Um, try this link, it might have what you're looking for but I'm not sure: [link]

Yes, yes, more pressure! That's exactly what I need! Oh and guilt! That'll be good too!

That's exactly what I eventually figured out! Besides, the world needs more ItaSaku! Yay! I'm hoping that my backgrounds will get better as I go along...they...well, they need work. I guess it's good if people understand what they are. I can live with that for now.

Well, it's the first comic anyway, right? I'm bound to make mistakes. It'd be nice if people would point them out to me, though. Favorites are nice...but comments are better (I can't say comment if you fave, though, since I don't always comment when I fave ).

Oh yes! I'm sure that we'll be doing nothing but art while on the ship! "What? The cruise is over? But-but I'm not ready for that! T_T"

I probably should take a class (or at least buy a book) but I don't have the spare change and I don't think I have room for it (my major requires a lot of credits--I'm not even sure if I'll be able to take 6 semesters of Japanese...). Well, you can always draw all the parts that you need to study for (I've never taken an anatomy class before, so I'm not sure what all you have to study).

Sweet. Thanks! I'll have to check it out. Maybe I'll learn something!

Backgrounds are hard indeed, they've always given us trouble. :\

And first comics are always trial and error, I think they're more about learning anyways as well. And making mistakes help you learn as well and are natural too.

Lol, I don't want the cruise to end either! But we'll have time afterwords and I believe to just hang out, so we'll have to do lots of collabs! *.*

There's a lot of anatomy tutorials on the internet anyways if you want to look them up, and half the time you can just learn it on your own by observing people around you, so I wouldn't worry about it. ^^

Stupid backgrounds. If I ever start an original manga, I'm going to hire someone to draw all the backgrounds for me. They're just too much trouble, if you ask me. XP Of course, I might get better and change my mind.

Yeah, that's true. I can always redo the early pages if I don't like them, right? It'd be nicer if we could just avoid mistakes and get it right the first time, though, right?

Once the cruise is over, that means working at a summer job before going back to school. Sigh. I like vacations. I'll just have to marry a rich guy and then I'll never have to work! Yeah! Though that might get boring.... YAY for collabs! We will have to do a lot.

I found one website that had a good tutorial on how to draw the male chest...but I lost it. I generally know how to draw it anyway. Observing, observing, and observing is all that art is about, right?

Agreed, someone else can do my background for me too. They're such a pain!

Exactly! But even if they're aren't mistakes, I find with my old work that I want to redo them so I can make them even better.

Ugh, I'm already going back to my job this week. Boo, I hate it! Summer jobs stink! *pouts* That's what we'll do, we'll marry rich guys so we can work on our artwork all day.

Indeed, observation is key! :>

Sometimes they turn out well...or well enough. But usually they're just a pain.

Hmm...maybe we should make a challenge of redoing artwork...it might be a fun challenge and it would show how we've grown. I don't have anything in particular that I want to redraw, but I'm sure that I could find something.

I have to find a summer job. I'm looking forward to it. XP Maybe I can work in a clothing store though and get discounts. I'm just going to have to apply for everything, I guess. Lovely. We should marry rich men...that sounds nice.

Well, if observation is key, then men, you better strip so that I can get better at drawing you!

ChelseaDanger In reply to The-Phisch [2009-05-06 07:42:43 +0000 UTC]

That's a great idea! Sounds like our next challenge. ^^ I can always find something to redraw as well. Heaven's knows I have a lot of bad artwork to redo.

Ooo, good idea! Discounts on clothes would be the best! ^.^ Best of luck with getting a job, you can do it.

Whoo hoo! I would love to see some stripper men to practice art and anatomy! That was the best perk of anatomy class, lol. X3

Maybe! I don't think I have anything in my gallery that I want to redraw...but I do have some artwork offline that I wouldn't mind redrawing.

I know, right? If I had had that when I spent $300, I'd have spent less money! I clothes. Thanks! I'm sure that I can.

I don't know if I'd ever draw anything with stripper men. I think I'd be too distracted.
