Ember hatched barely a day after Spyro and Cynder on the small, hidden island of Yurnorath. Far from the coast of Avalar, Ember grew up playing on the sandy beaches and exploring the forests with her mother, a snow dragoness named Niphara, and her friends. It was a time of rambunctiousness, peace, and exploration without a care in the world.

Until the war came to her.

Tens of thousands of Corrupted Apes, led by Gaul, invaded Yurnorath and razed Ember's home to the ground. She fled with several others into the forest, but the majority were hunted down and killed. As the Apes closed in on Ember and her mother, Niphara gave Ember a very important item: a red crystal in the shape of a heart. Niphara told Ember to find the Guardians in Warfang and show them the crystal. They would protect her. Ember begged her mother to come with her, but Niphara refused. Giving Ember one last kiss goodbye, Niphara told Ember to fly.

She did. After flying for only a few miles, the sky lit up a bright white as a beam of energy descended from the heavens. Ember looked back at her island, only to see it had disappeared. The shockwave sent her falling to the ocean, where she blacked out on impact.

When she came to, Ember found herself face-to-face with a red and yellow dragon standing over her. She soon learned his name was Flame, and he was a member of a dragon tribe making its way to Warfang.

Ember traveled with the tribe to Warfang, and has since remained there with her now-mate, Flame.

Ember is descended from a long line of dragons with very strong connections to the Ancestors, even for Artisan dragons. It is said that one of the First Ancestors gave birth to her line, granting them such a powerful connection.

The heart-shaped crystal Ember wears is an ancient Ancestral artifact, one that allows the wearer to channel the power of the Ancestors with great ease. A more potent form of spirit gem, Ember can use the crystal to greatly enhance her elemental abilities, heal dozens at a time, and form the energy into anything she can imagine. This crystal, combined with her , makes her a tremendous

Currently, Ember acts as the Great Sage of Warfang, a role that acts as both healer, spiritual leader, and mentor. She is similar to an oracle or prophet, being granted glimpses of the future by the Ancestors or the Gods. Other times, she acts as the balance between the two, communicating with them and offering advice to younger generations.

Many confuse this role of hers with the role of the Purple Dragon. This is not the case, as Spyro is the balance between Good and Evil, Light and Dark, Aether and Dark Aether, and....

One of the many reasons I decided to rewrite A Light in the Dark is I didn't feel like I explored the more mystical side of TLoS as much as I should have, instead focusing on cool gadgets and buildings. Spyro is fun because of the intrigue of the power in each and every creature, and how they all fit into the Dragon Realms.

Some of the stuff that has released gave me ideas on where to go with magic, the Gods, elements, and the Ancestors in ALitD. His designs and ideas on the elements and aether is really interesting, I highly recommend checking it out.
