Description John Hanks, aka the Shroud, in an uncharacteristic moment of fatal justice, killed Father Lancaster. Much later, James Lance, aka Penance, would go on to kill the Shroud's serial killing rogue, Rupert Nash. The two events seemed unconnected, by time and persons involved. It’s funny how Fate brings paths together. Firstly, the remnants of the New Order of the Brotherhood of the Knights Templar were not content to be without a leader. Farther Lancaster had led them with a steady hand on their quest. The were in new of a new guide. After months of learning the means to reanimate his body, at the last moment of the final ritual, it was decided it’d be wrong to resurrect their fearless leader; after all, he had surely ascended to Paradise. Where then was the justice in bringing him back to the earthly realm of wickedness and sin? No, they would create a weapon instead. A symbolic sword to galvanise their renewed loyalty to enact their Grand Master's vision. This weapon would unleashed upon the world to lead by example, if not as a direct ruler. Shortly after this, a new lethal protector under the name of the Revenant began laying waste to the great and good and greedy and grotesque of Cedar’s City’s populace. He also killed the poor and the meek, those facing no other choice but petty theft and drug dealing. He was cleansing the city without remorse; a swath of cleansing butchery that would have made Father Lancaster proud. It was only when he clashed with the new supernatural Shroud, the former Penance James Lance, that the real violence started. Ostensibly these two lethal warriors were on the same side as they purged wickedness from the city. But, if anything, Revenant was a warning of what Lance would become if unchecked. It was only when Lance unmasked his adversary that he realised there was a bigger scheme at work. For the mask under the mask could never have operated alone. His kills were too specific, too planned. They held a clear motive and purpose. It was a crusade. The man he had unmasked was a sociopathic sadist, uncaring in who he maimed, tortured and murdered. And he was dead. Rupert Nash had been brought back to be the ultimate weapon for the New Order’s war. And he had unwittingly brought James Lance down upon their head.
