In the 37th Century humanity has split into two factions: The Tomorrowists and the Futurites. The war has raged between the Tomorrowists, those living on the desolated wasteland that is the husk of the Earth, and the Futurites, dwelling in shimmering glory in the resplendent palatial city of Nu-Terra, upon the surface of the Moon. The only event that causes fighting to cease is a festival that takes place each cycle of the calendar: the celebration knowing as The Awakening. During the Awakening, both races gather on the vast satellite craft that orbits Earth, uninhabited except for on that special day. It is then that adolescents pass through the Great Machine, a supreme technological marvel that bonds machinery to organics and results in individuals stepping away with a unique ability. They then return with their people to their home and the fighting recommences. One man, rechristened Volkaan following his rite of passage, his old name forgotten as with all those of his time, became a high ranking science-general. Granted the gift to build anything he can see in his mind's eye, he advanced his people's cause and saw many foes die at the hands of his creations and many of his own die in retaliation. He had enough. He began working on a time travel device to go back centuries, to before the war. To prevent it from happening… by setting himself up as the final ruler of the world.
