Description Green Knight, Azanni, Inspectre, Papa Hoodoo, Porkington Gutbucket, Robert White, Golem, The Emperor

Green Knight:

Nick Hawkins didn’t know who his father was. Subsequently, he didn’t know he had two half brothers. He did not know that their names where Hank and Kit Berkilak. He did not know that they had both, at one time, held the title of The Green Knight. What he did know was that, after seeing Kit, his secret brother, current Green Knight and member of the Protectors, die on national TV, everything went sideways. A contended family man, Nick was living a quiet suburban life with his husband and two children. Then, the day after the Green Knight fell, a hulking figure in ancient armour broke into his office and demanded Nick battle him for the title of Green Knight. Apparently, this monstrous warrior was his ancestor and the first of his line to hold the title. Nick tried to run but the figure pursued. Back to his house. Just as his husband Gerry brought the kids home from school. To protect his family, Nick dug deep. He unlocked something. Drawing on the power of the Earth, Nick used the flora around him to dominate and consume the attacker. A helmet of leaves, a shield of bark and a blade of photosynthesizing matter sprouted from within his own body. And Nick won. The Earth had a new champion. Or more specifically, its emissary, the mysterious woman who had once perverted Hank Berkilak into becoming Blackguard, had a new plaything. In the following days, Nick felt the urge to leave his family, to wander into forests and green places and make himself one with the planet. He found when he cut himself shaving, it wasn’t blood that flowed forth, but sap. He took himself to a doctor and found that, while his internal organs looked human, upon closer inspection, they were closer to plant cell structure. Nick was changing. He didn’t want to. And so he went off to find the voice of the one who called him. He went to find freedom. He found Morgen. He overthrew her control and established himself as hero, husband and loving father. He now has immense power to control and accelerate plant life, include his own floral body, granting him the ability to shapeshift, as well as the power to turn himself into plant matter and travel through the web of plantlife connecting the planet. To protect the world from other extranormal forces, he gathered a group of other beings prepared to fight off dark forces. He forged The Shadow Cabinet.

Azanni:

Alexa Azanni was a vampire. Then she was not. The fewer questions asked, the better. She may have lost her humanity for a time, what she never lost was her abilities as a sorcerer. Now she uses them to help fight back the darkness once more.

The Inspectre:

Daniel Chaplain died. He was investigating a string of murders which led him to encounter the Dead Detective, Devlin Kole, still operating as the Inspectre. But time as a wraith had left Kole broken. His mind was frayed. He felt himself losing grip. He was fading. And he was becoming desperate. Dangerous. He knew he wouldn’t be able to stop the killings. But neither would Chaplain. Not as a man. He did something unthinkable. Unspeakable. He lured Daniel Chaplain to a basement, under the premise of it belonging to the killer. Then Kole trapped Chaplain inside. Without food. Without water. He left him to die. His work complete, Devlin Kole moved beyond the veil. Inside that basement, with no hope of escape, Chaplain studied the cipher Kole had scrawled on the walls. It was a counting system. A way to compartmentalise time, in huge amounts, within one’s own mind. It could keep the brain working on mass calculations to the finite second. Chaplain went into a semi-conscious state as his mind continued to tally up seconds and minutes and hours and days. Just as Devlin had done decades before. Then, at last, a month later. Chaplain realised he was still counting. And his body was beginning to decay. What made Daniel Chaplain Daniel Chaplain remained. And so, a ghost himself, he left the basement and continued his quest for justice. He continued to do the work of the Inspectre.

Papa Hoodoo:

Papa Hoodoo is known by no other name but he is known nonetheless. By the right people. And the wrong. If you need a cantrip or rootwork, he's the man to go to. For a price. And, for a price, he could be convinced to join a team of supernatural defenders. An old scoundrel with a heart of gold, he’s a drinker, a singer, a smooth talker and a lady’s man. He also happens to be several hundred years old.

Porkington Gutbucket:

After a lurid tabloid story featured pictures of a rival paper’s prize reporter in a questionable act with a prize winning county fair sow, Gutbucket’s career went into a nosedive. And he went into every dive in Cedar City. Now a hard-drinking, hardboiled, embittered newshound, few beings on the planet know what he knows about the shady underbelly of the world. And few have the nose to sniff it out. When the shadows amass, there’s one swine you want on your side. You can pay him in booze.

Robert White:

When cavemen gathered around the fire, it was to keep the monsters at bay. One monster in particular. He was had many names. Rupert Von Whight. The White Baron. The Pale Man. These days, he goes by Robert. And he is trying to do things differently. After a time, bloodlust takes its toll. For Robert, that time was several millennia. Now, he wants to better. Be something closer to the humans he has preyed upon across the eons. He wants to be, if he can, someway close to decent. Having forsworn blood, he now uses his sizeable wisdom, experience and vampiric powers to fight the dread terrors he once considered peers.

Golem:

He is the Golem. He wishes only to slumber. But the Earth has been awoken and is in need of a protector. The Green Knight was not it. The Golem will be nobody’s slave. But he cannot rest until the Earth is safe. And so, he has sided with another who chosen to live for himself. What he thinks is unknown, but the Green Knight feels a brotherly kinship toward this silent behemoth. He has saved Nick’s life on more than one occasion. It seems then, at least until he can rest again, the Golem is a friend to be trusted.

The Emperor:

Age brings wisdom. And clarity. All those things are assets. If you are willing to side with the Devil. And if the Devil is willing to slum it with heroes, well, perhaps he is a gift horse not to be inspected. When The Eternally Fallen Emperor of the Five Forgotten Cities first sought out Nick Hawkins’ aid, it seemed a ruse at best. But perhaps, it’s just possible that the man who operates on levels so much higher than the rest of mortality, may in fact be willing to help it survive.
