Description
Well, here's another picture for you guys! This time, of a particularly legendary mythological figure... or at least, my shoddy depiction of him. XDSo yeah, this is Hercules... and his tale is quite similar to the mythic man of the same name...
Born as the progeny of the king of all deities and one of his many mortal paramours, he was originally known as Heracles, which meant "glory of Hera" in the hopes of sparing the newborn from her inevitable ire... and for a time, it actually worked, only due to the company of another who had helped her take her mind off of her husband's rampant infidelity. However, after the actions of Zeus banishing his wife's secret confidant to the Underworld unfairly, Hera would fly into a grief induced rage and subsequently take her hostility out on her husband's most favored illegitimate child, cursing him with insatiable wrath and causing him to fly into a berserk rampage, resulting in the murder of his wife and children at the time.
Seeking to atone for his actions, he submits himself into the services of a particularly spiteful king from a nation that no longer exists in the present day, and he would take on numerous labors that would become legends in the centuries that followed, which included slaying a nigh-invulnerable lion (whose impenetrable pelts he still wears even now), defeating a multi-headed serpent with endless regenerative heads, cleaning a particularly nasty set of stables, capturing legendary beasts that had ties to certain deities, and even acquiring the girdle of Hippolyta the Amazonian queen at the time. These tasks were long and arduous, not helped at all with Hera's vendetta against him, but ultimately his immeasurable strength and perseverance carried him through.
Eventually, with his atonement completed, Heracles was freed from service and went on to have a peaceful existence in the mortal realm... until one fateful day, upon slaying a centaur man who was accosting his second wife, he would remain unaware of the dying centaur's last words of deceit whispered to her ears. When next he dressed himself in his tunic, he discovered too late that it was thoroughly drenched in the lethal venom of the dreaded hydra, and the excruciating agony that followed could not permit him to live any longer as a mortal... so although he was hurting horribly from the burning venom he was enveloped in, Heracles constructed a pyre for himself, and with his last companion, a young man of the newly formed Dragon clan, he was consumed by dragon's fire that scorched and incinerated him.
But then, by the will of the king of all deities, the soul of Heracles sprang forth from the ashes of the pyre, revealing that he had been found worthy to ascend as a deity himself. He would go further beyond earning the good graces of the deities by ultimately saving Hera, his (mortal) life long nemesis, from giants, which at long last put him in good standing with the godly queen... and finally, he would ultimately go on to marry Hebe, deity of youth and the once cupbearer of the deities themselves. Knowing that his name had probably been a minor source of irritation for the the queen, he ultimately decided to discard his former name and take on the name he bears now... Hercules.
Nowadays, he mainly serves as the main guard to the realm of the gods, but there are times when he may return to the mortal realm to see how much has changed. Perhaps he is ever watchful, waiting to see if new heroes will one day make their exploits known...
I had a bit of fun making this guy, honestly... though I did have to look through a lot of depictions to get an idea of how to make him here. ^^
I still wish I was ripped like him though... XD
Anyways, enjoy! Who knows what's next down the line?
