Description
"Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?"This was my first attempt at drawing the entire Spongebob cast (minus Mrs. Puff and Larry the Lobster). It was more than just a piece of fanart--it was a chance for me to practice blending with prismacolors (for the backgrounds) as well as blending for water/undersea scenes. It was also the first time that I eschewed solid black lines and went for shading. The image wouldn't fit on the scanner, so I had to photograph it on the floor.
Note Plankton in the corner, another color blending experiment.

This is very good. I agree with MJBivouac about your drawing skills improving; and the characters' likeness is stunning. Good job.

I figured you'd recognize them from the kids at Vals school. I am sure they're probably obcessed with the yellow guy as well.

Not as much as you'd think. I used to get a lot of drawing requests of him and others about 2003-04, but none since then. However, Val did get a new pair of tennies at Ross Dress for Less. These discounted sneakers has Sponge Bob on them! They are the new favorite of her, even over the Disney Princesses shoes and Dora the Explorer sandals!

That's hilarious! I wonder how she'd react to that picture?

Although I completely despise Spongebob, this is REALLY GOOD!

I hated him initially, but like the simple, multicellular organism that he is, he grew on me. I am also into boating, so the boat/ocean jokes were part of what hooked me.

Your drawing skills are definitely improving! You might try some Bristol Board or cold press illustration board sometime. They take Prismacolor pencils well.
Keep up the good work...

Thanks. Coming from you that is a great complement. I did this one on Bristol smooth finish which I really like. I don't think I will ever go back to 70# paper again.

MD,
Good for you! Better paper makes for a better art. I'm glad to see that you have progressed enough in your skills to see the difference. Keep up the good work. I know you are very busy with greater responsibilities than fan art, but I will look forward to your next post.

wow, that's really well done! you've done a great job getting vibrant colours into the piece and the backgrounds are very impressive, especially for a first try.

Thanks. Coloring with Prismacolors and getting that vibrant, bright look is hard on the hands.

That's really good for a first attempt! I've only ever tried drawing SpongeBob, Gary, and Plankton, and I know (the first two at least) are kinda tough to draw. Plankton's just a pill with arms, legs, and an eye, though. And I must say that, on the subject of Plankton, I am loving the expression he's got there. Nice job!
