Cool snake i would be afraid to own a snake that big. I would worry about it constricting and swallowing me

Lol, this snake couldn't eat a human. She could kill ya though! That's why you should never handle large snakes alone She never showed any aggression though. Snakes are generally less dangerous than dogs, or horses.

lol, yes she was big. She got way thicker after being in my care for a while. This pic was when I first got her.
and yea, always have to make sure the furry animals are in a separate room when handling the big guys. Don't want any accidents

haha. I had snakes all through my life living with my parents, they were uneasy at first but now my mom actually has her own snake! Complete turn around. She wants to breed them too Kenyan Sand Boas. So it is possible to convert people. just do it with knowledge
I'm moved out now though so I can get as many as I can fit in my bedroom, which is around 70 animals at this point. I won't have that many until I start having lots of babies though

She should get bigger, I no longer have her though, sold her to a guy who lives not far from here He's breeding her, I wouldn't doubt if she is over 17 ft now. Retics can get over 20 ft but most stay around 15-20 (females) and males smaller.

Oh I'm sorry to hear about that. I would cry if my snake got taken away...if I had a snake! I really want one. One time I was on a school trip and I got to hold this little adorable snake and he wrapped around my fingers and then stared at me with his big black shiny eyes! I almost fainted from too much cuteness.

Hmm, hard to say. Yep I name all of them. I'm sure some I've had weren't named (had them too short of a time) but the ones I keep are named Right now I have Randal, Belome, Cragnon, Velvet, Sahasrahla, Wadjet, Enigma, Thardus (all ball pythons) and then Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Franken Berry, Baron von Redberry, Yummy Mummy, Crazy Cow, Honey Bunny and Sir Grapefellow (cereal theme - all Kenyan sand boas). If I had to pick a favorite I'd probably choose Randal cos I've had him the longest, 10 years

the-shiznite In reply to Lordfell [2010-05-07 22:42:36 +0000 UTC]
16 I keep them in snake racks. I don't put my snakes in the same enclosures unless they are breeding, they aren't really social animals, do best alone. Keeps them healthier and less stressed that way

I'm sure and pinky mice is just baby mice, they are called pinkies cos they are bald and pink
The different ages/sizes are called pinkies, fuzzies, hopppers, weanlings, adults and jumbo

Love them. She is so healthy looking, her markings are great.
I hate the reputation they've been given. In my opinion, as long as any species is socialized from a very young age on a regular basis, you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, you do need to take more pictures. No rush though.
I'm not planning on getting one right this second, but it is in the back of my mind. Do they requie a lot of climbing space, or are they fairly inactive? I know most large species are calmer as adults, I just need a good idea of how big an enclosure should be.

the-shiznite In reply to theartbook35 [2009-01-31 04:25:42 +0000 UTC]
They are pretty inactive, although there are exceptions. As young they like to climb but they are a terrestrial specie. A sufficient size cage for an adult is 6x3' and approx. 18" tall. Some prefer more height, some don't. You can get nice professional cages this size shipped to you, or you could build your own whatever size you want

Yesh ^___^ And, it being custom built makes it that much more special, because you can have it however you want it without having the trouble of buying something that is okay but you can see how it could be better.
I might take that approach as our turtles get older.
Speaking of turtles, I know that every reptile shreds differently, but we've had them since the summer of last year, and I have seen the occasional tiny bit of shedding, like a few pieces, but no real big shed. Is that supposed to be normal? The assumed female is the only one who sheds a little and grows, and the assumed male just doesn't show any sign of it at all.
Yay about the piccies, I'm excited

Turtles and lizards don't usually shed their entire body skin at the same time, so I wouldn't be too worried... But, I'm also rusty on turtles and lizards so you might want to get an "expert" opinion on that one
