Description
You know how you have your own little theories about something, and they won't stop bugging your mind until you vomit draw it out on paper? This is one of those moments. xD
I love D&D/Council of Wyrm's concept of three subspecies of dragons; that being Metallic, Chromatic, and Gem. In my head, the species have differences among each other that remain consistent, although not glaringly obvious. So this was me figuring stuff out; not what I think/believe about how the dragons look or the kind of variations in shape and stuff, but what I like to imagine.
FIRST ROW (Vertical):
Medium-set Metallic dragon; Heavyset Metallic dragon; Lightweight Metallic dragon. I enjoy giving them a harsher-edged look.
SECOND ROW:
Medium-set Chromatic dragon; Heavyset Chromatic dragon (good gawd that thing came out horrible wtf); Lightweight Chromatic dragon. I like giving them a smoother look, although their natural armor can still be just as strong as the metallics.
THIRD ROW:
Medium-set Gem dragon; Heavyset Gem dragon; Lightweight Gem dragon (I'm so sorry I forgot your cheek horns little guy ;-; ). I like the gem dragons, though they're more of a challenge for me. I like giving them an icier look to them- rigid, sharper, but yet more approachable-looking and cheerier than their cousins at the same time. It's a hard concept to get down on paper.
