apparently used the color scheme from this g1 pony, Twilight, to color this prototype
you're right, she does look like Twilight Sparkle's mother.
And if I'm not mistaken, they used the cutie mark from the original g1 Twilight pony for g4 Twilight's mother, and Moondancer's cutie mark (crescent moon and star, shown above) for Twilight's dad.
