Description It just seemed perfect. The moon is almost mystical.

This picture started out very dark and has been lightened up.
I was still learning how to use the different modes - here, shutter priority mode.

Great capture ... I like the composition ...

I also love how the 3 birds have 3 differing wing profiles ... going from straight up to gliding, from left to right

Joe.

Wow, simply stunning! The moon is gorgeous to begin with, but when you add the sky and the birds...it's absolutely stunning!

That's indeed a nice shot , but it's a bit grainy , if you increase the ISO in my opinion it'll get grainy specially that it's not so dark. I think if you captured a few other shots for the moon with different settings and then merged them all with this one you have a good result as you'll get the birds as well as making sure the background and the moon will look good too. I've captured the moon a lot but never captured it with other subjects : [link] .

Try removing some of the digital camera noise from it too, will clean it up a bit more.

what are the best ways to do this?
I've tried despeckle (partially worked), selective gaussian blur (worked really well for the large blue areas but not the rest), and am now trying to go in and smudge...

In photoshop there is a simple button you click that just says, remove digital camera noise. Click that as many times as you want to and it will remove it. The more you remove it though the softer the pic becomes and it looks more blurred so you only need to do it once or twice at most.

Now that's the moon I was never able catch with my camera Nikon rulez. You should have put higher ISO, it can go up to 800 on these cameras without any (or too visible) noise. Wonderful catch.

Great photo! I love the positioning of the ducks in the bottom corner, the cloud and then the moon in the upper corner.

Yes, great capture! Shutter priority it's a good mode, but next time make sure to increase the ISO to 800 or 1600.
