I'm not a new years' resolutions person, really. But the other day I sketched up this page of deer, and got to thinking. I love animals, but I know I'm not very good at drawing them (realistically. Cartoon-style is no problem!). My high school art teacher once told our class that if you want to draw something stylized or cartoony, you should know how to draw it realistically first. He might have had a good point there.So, for 2010, rather than make a resolution, I'm going to start a project. Each week I will select a species (or a particular breed if one perks my interest) and sketch them, at least one A4 full. Much like this page of deer, using reference. And then show them here, so you guys can make sure I'm keeping it up

Go ahead and practice! I would recommend also using original sources though (that is...just googling for photos) since my sketches have eliminated some detail and adapted to my style. But practice is still practice!

Well, your sketches don't really include much detail, and I'm not very skilled at making fur and all that, so googling stuff would kinda be difficult for me. And the sketches you have are quite simple, while other pictures could kinda be challenging. But, thanks!
