Description
The Class 55 "Deltic" locomotives were built by English Electric in the early 1960s to replace the various LNER pacifics on the East Coast Main Line. 22 were built and were named after British Army regiments or - as per LNER tradition - racehorses. The arrival of the Intercity 125s saw the class relegated to secondary work in the late 1970s before being withdrawn in the early 1980s.
