Description
The Class 56 was introduced in 1976 for heavy freight work. The first thirty were built by Romanian manufacturer Electroputere, but these were withdrawn for extensive rebuilding due to poor construction. The remaining 105 were built by British Rail Engineering Limited at Doncaster and Crewe. While most of the class have been withdrawn, there are still a few dozen still at work including three sold to Hungarian railway Floyd Zrt.Sprite by
