Description
This one was quite a challenge, I must admit it! I'm not used to draw very squared and buff characters, and to this type of deformity neither, so I did my best.Hope you like it!

You all are right, Quasimodo looks ridiculous in his clothes, he reminds me of a clown or jester in this outfit. It isn't very suitable for someone working in a church. I was asking myself the question why VH did that and who is able to sew suitable clothes for him - he is a challenge for every tailor. Was the one colorblind who made them?
The Disney employees were much better, I agree with you; green and brown did suit him much better in the Disney movie. Not only Ariel, also Peter Pan and Robin Hood wore green clothes that made really sense; if you have read Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier, the tailor Madame Rossini did also complain that she had to be careful with colours she was sewing for a redhead and she was relieved that Gwendolyn wasn't one so she had much more choice.

I do believe he's supposed to look ridiculous and inappropriate just because he's someone that's simply not meant to look like he belongs to somewhere or fits in in any way
Yes, Disney made him wear green and brown and it's a colour scheme that works alright; but Hugo wanted him to look like a deranged train in all sorts of way, even in colour schemes, so I went along with it. Thank you for your comment, tho, opinions are always appreciated!

This is beautifully done. He's not as adorable when drawn the way he's described in the book. Good job on this. No ginger should ever have to wear red & purple, especially together. Being deaf and wearing bells makes his work clothes even more cruel.
Disney had to have consciously made a choice to have him in red & purple in the sequel. I totally understand why they put him in green. Cartoon red-heads wear green, Ariel being another.

Oh, thank you lots! Yes, making him adorable was certainly not my goal, so I must have done this right
I agree about gingers wearing red and purple. Hugo must have been either color-blind or cursed with a terrible taste in color choiches, but hey, his book, his rules I just stick to it

Maybe Hugo was aware of his choice - everything about Quasimodo would make a person want to turn away. Forget his deformity. Red, ginger and purple? Eek. Quasimodo's birthday, according to the book, falls close to kick-a-ginger day. This may or may no be a co-incidence.
I jest. Quasimodo is my favourite.

Please explain, who is the ginger of whom you are thinking of?

Ariel and Kim-Possible. I could never, ever, ever kick Quasi.

The poor thing just never stood a freakin' chance with anyone except a psychopath like Claude.

No one wants him, he's ugly, deformed, ginger, has the worst clothes imaginable, is deaf, one-eyed, isolated and an orphan. He is also raised by Archdeacon Coo-Coo-Pants. Through all that, he's the only truly decent person in the novel. He understands what love is, even though he can't express it very well and never receives any. Hugo makes a point that he can read & write, so he's intelligent enough to know whats going on around him.
Any actor that plays him, or artist that draws him, must feel the challenge. It's not simply drawing a monster, there is more there & it has to be subtle. I'm sure you felt it when drawing your piece, since it works very well.

He trurly is; he also has no love at all for anyone except Frollo, but that's just because everyone hates him with no other reason than that he's ugly and in every way different from the norm, which must be the most painful thing ever; the proof that he's not a bad person, though, is that the moment someone bothers to show the poor guy a glimpse of kindness, he becomes the most loving human being ever existed. On the inside, he's actually not different at all, but the majority of people always made him feel like his exterior shape certainly had to reflect his soul, that his heart couldn't be different from his face, and in my opinion that is a crushing feeling.
Outcasts and two-faced people, that's who agrees with me the most
May I say, I've noticed you've got quite a depth of feeling and understanding, and it's always an honour to see that someone like you appreciates what I do I'm only sorry I can't express myself well, since English is not my first language

I would be the former - outcast for most of my life. Fortunately, life is good.
You express yourself well. Were I asked to express myself in my second language, it would hurt both my brain and that of the person struggling to understand me.

Same as I, but I'm afraid I'll always be a little bit. It's a good thing, tho, I wouldn't have turned to art if I wasn't
Thank you I'm always afraid I might sound stupid for making grammatical errors, so forgive me if I do

I turned to science for the same reason. Books are easier to understand and don't shun a person. At some point, after secluding ones self in a library for long enough, one becomes viewed as "eccentric" rather than outcast. I still feel like an outcast. Art is something I dabble and play with.
The meaning behind the words is more important.

Yep, I do understant that feeling. I've always been a bookworm and very shy, a combination that in a small town like mine really doesn't help
Luckily when I changed school I discovered I was at least reasonably good at making art and imagining things, and here I am
Thanks

Cuz green complementary of his red hair, is kinda a good color choice, but thats not what the book says Disney!!!!
But it seems in the sequence Quasi is dressed in purple tho...forget the sequence... why everybody is not dead....

That makes sense... He has a purple and red -if I reckon correctly- vest when they put him on the wheel... Ya know, when Frollo acts like a bitch and Esmeralda frees him

Ah yea, I remember(DISNEY'S THE FEAST OF FOOL DAY DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE!!!...anyway...). Disney changes Frollo into a judge I guess for the sake of kids...or they won't go to the church...or believe in God then... now they will only not believe in law lol....
I really like his robe tho, I even made one for my doll....

(THE WHOLE FILM MAKES NO SENSE! It's just not the Hunchback of Notre Dame's story...)
Actually, they did it because the verse "It's not my fault/If in God's plan/He made the devil so much stronger than a man" does not agree well with a priest, and Catholic church would've not accept it if Frollo was to be kept a priest... (Catholic church gotta chill a lot, imho)
But Disney is Disney, and the film in itself it's one of my favourites, both for the character design and the atmosphere

Why Disney decided to make such intense novel into a kid's movie...it is..hard just thinking about it....
And Disney usually gotta make villain super bad(altho we pity Frollo for his frustration...), but yea, that's why Frollo can't be a priest, Catholic will condemn Disney then...
However, if Frollo is such a evil judge in the movie, why does he even care... judge can marry right....Or just go for it...you are bad guy dude........wait...it's a kid movie.....
The music in the movie is epic! And the new version of its musical FINALLY made Claude Archdeacon!!!!

Yes, I always thought that too... It was just out of their reach to make that book into a kid's movie...
And they totally distorted his character (and Phoebus too, but Phoebus in the book had the moral depth of a spoon) but yes, of course, it's still a kid's movie he can't just go for it
I agree completely, the music is wonderful, especially Heaven's Light/Hellfire! But the musical is way more loyal to the book

"the moral depth of a spoon" omg XD (And Quasi appears to be mentally unstable...)
Still he may be the only character in cartoon history openly singing songs about lust, you go Frollo!
The Disney HoND has its own musical, with all the songs in the movie and few original musical songs, it is pretty great. And the Disney musical just reopened last year and made Claude into a Archdeacon instead of a judge, cuz kids are not the target audience and the plot changed a lot.

Well, not that much, he just hates everyone except Claude, and medieval society was not particulary kind with him...
And not a single kid realized that! (At least, I totally didn't )
Didn't know that, I gotta check!

In the movie,Quasi talks to gargoyles..
when I watched the Hellfire part, I really like the tone, and is the only song I remember afterwards...
Mostly because in Hellfire he uses so many fancy big words that no kids could understand...
Here's the soundtrack of the new Disney mucial XD

I have to thank the Disney movie, still, if now I'm so obsessed with NDdP. That one really made an impression on me, and so I got curious about the original story...
Thank you
