Description
My first attempt at a "serious" portrait drawing in pencil. This is of Katie Cassidy who plays the legendary Ruby on Supernatural. In my opinion, the best Ruby ever.
Tools used:
2H pencil
H pencil
HB pencil
2B pencil
Stumpy
Tissue
Mars eraser
Normal printing paper
Took about 5 hours of drawing in total, with a whole heap of a lotta TV breaks. Gives me something to do during commercials. C:
As you can see, after I drew the face, I got bored and spaggled on the hair. Teehee, whoops. XD
I know I'm not perfect, I don't produce perfect works of art (though I'd like to) and my drawing skills are very, very undercooked, so any critiques about this would make my Christmas.

Very nice! The biggest thing I notice as a non (that kind of) artist, is that most of her face looks like it's viewed from almost straight-on, but then the right side with the ear looks like it's viewed a little bit from the right, and the bottom of the nose looks like it's viewed very much from the right (while even the top doesn't).
Still, very nice though, and I don't know why you don't like the hair; I think it's great.

Got bored with the hair.
I just copied this off a picture... which is very much just a picture and nothing digital, haha.

I care about your perception of tings, that its what art is. Representation can be difficult, but if reflects the original, not juts copy her, its good enough.
Art its not a copy of something its a reinterpretation, a reflection of what we want to say.
The portrait has life, and it shows your interest on it, thats the perfect beginning. The rest its just practice.

That is so interesting. I've never thought about art (when we copy from a picture) as a reflection of what we want to say.
Thanks for those words of wisdom!

Some of the proportions appear to be a bit askew (the left eye looks like it could use some work), but you seem to be better than you give yourself credit. The shading very good, especially on the left side of the face. You also need to work a bit more on trying to get the character exactly on the mark - the character here seems to be more youthful than they probably need to be. It could also be the size of the eyes creating this illusion - in which case you may need to scale down the eyes. The hair isn't actually all that bad, but if you do feel like you need to improve in that area just practise. I'm also a bit unsure of the collar(?) on the left - it's a bit difficult to make out, so if you were to go back and improve on it, maybe try to make it easier to identify. The chin also seems a bit too pointy, or 'Manga'. I think you could try to bring it in a bit and soften it, and that could make it better. Despite the flaws though, it's a nice drawing - and a productive five hours.

I was using a really small fuzzy picture... hehe.
Yeah, I know about the chin. I kinda ruined it at the end and didn't want to fix it because it'd probably be worse.
